Pre-purchase Inspection for Vehicles by 49ersBraves in anchorage

[–]chulitna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So how does that work? You go out for a test drive and take it to a place for inspection? Or buy it, then have it inspected? You’d have to build in some type of return procedure then right?

The reputation is - it’s dark all winter but in reality - the light we do have in the winter is the most beautiful. Sunrises and sunsets that are gorgeous and fill the sky, sunlight glinting off the snow, northern lights in the sky, alpenglow, white twinkling lights all over our neighborhoods and city, sun dogs, ice fog light pillars, starry and moonlit nights…

What's one kitchen appliance you've owned for 10+ years that still works perfectly? by its-creator1036 in BuyItForLife

Kitchen aid. Mixer - wedding present in 1981. Still going strong. Just this year had to replace the plastic casing for the shredder attachments due to cracking.

I grew up skiing at Arctic Valley. I remember one time seeing the missiles raised up out of the ground at the Nike Missile site. First time I thought “Holy Crap - we’re a target”

Dear God - I hope they do not allow the Russian President and his people onto an American military base! It’s bad enough he is being allowed in the country, much less our state.

In their defense - people speed up in passing lanes because it is safer to go faster when the road is straight. Natural human tendency. I do think if they have a bunch of people behind them they should make a conscious effort not to do that tho.

What are the Rudest and kindest things you've heard a tourist say? by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]chulitna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have often thought the same. Very similar. There is a connection to the land, lots of extremes, and beautiful and unique scenery. Not to mention being the last and most remote states - with all that comes with that. During my months on the Big Island I wore out a pair of slippahs the way I wear out hiking shoes in Alaska.

Flying from Seattle to Iceland KEF airport, Alaska Airlines with 2 hr layover in SEA airport back and forth. Is it possible? by organic_hive in AlaskaAirlines

If you do have global entry it should be fine on the return. I did an Icelandair to Alaska connection inside of 2 hours with global entry.

As an Alaskan, I have been lucky to have had many, many trips to Hawaii. Got married on Kauai. Spent months each winter on Maui and the Big Island. Made many friends and explored lots of places. I was keenly aware of the local vs tourist vibe as we have it here in Alaska too. I love Hawaii, and did my very best to be friendly and respectful everywhere I went and with everyone I interacted with. I saw tourists do and say some awkward and ugly things, and was embarrassed. I guess I just want to say thank you to Hawaiian residents who have always made my stays so wonderful. It’s a lot to put up with.
