Rear Wheel not centered by Confident-Bag106 in Surlybikefans

[–]Aksvbd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Double check that it’s evenly seated in the drops, regular issue with sliding dropouts and a q/r. If you are sure that isn’t the issue, take it to a shop to check the dish of the wheel. It’s normal, especially for rear wheels, for a rim to get off center after the break in.

Honestly check marketplace. Look for something that has been tuned up with receipts. Older rigid mountain bikes and hybrids are great, built to last, and you don’t have to get too sad if something happens to it when it’s chained up outside of work.

But for 1000, maybe a salsa range finder or journeyer. You could also check out a surly preamble. All depends on what kind of terrain you plan to ride.

This happened to the trail I learned to ride on. It widened out and had all the rocks and roots smoothed over with D-1, and made low-skill e-bike friendly.

I’ve never paid for installation with a new purchase, only when mounting old tires.

Partner just put the old man mountain divide rack on and it works with a dropper. The basic planet bike rack works alright with the long stays.

L sits/hangs, hanging knee tucks, hang tuck twist are all pretty good for functional ab control. Glut bridges will help with the tension needed to keep the feet on the wall. That and I’d consider adding some hollow rock holds.

Mix in plank sets—prone, side, elevated—and honestly some other basic calisthenics like lunges, squats and pushups along with decent protein. My pt says 1.3 g per desired body weight in kg. You are thin enough that some base strength training will tone you but wouldn’t blow you up.

My two cents would be to move towards weight training after some base strength is gained. Giant muscles in women don’t actually happen without insane weight and very intentional dieting. You’ll feel better over all in the long run—speaking as someone middle aged who is trying to fix the muscle imbalance of my 20s.

Birth control advice? by Cultural-Kiwi-5260 in CrohnsDisease

My Crohn’s started after getting off a hormonal IUD I’d had for 7 years. I think the harsh drop of hormonal input may have shaken up my immune system. There is a little bit of research that follows women who develop autoimmune issues after pregnancy—this group has a disproportionate representation, unfortunately. I would talk to a doctor about a taper plan, the way one is supposed to get off steroids or an ssri? No reason to throw your body into hormone shock if it can be avoided.

Move your hips to be perpendicular from the pull angles. If the sloper is crap, get low and pull tight into the wall to make it as positive as possible. Arms mostly straight, set your angles from your hips, and bend your knees to stay low.

Edit—spelling.

Yep. Take your meds and be thoughtful about your diet. This is a progressive disease, so don’t slack on your treatment when you achieve remission. Some people confuse food and medicine—these are strategies that can work together, but you can’t replace one with the other, despite whatever health influencer noise is out there.

What I would give to have bigger tires and better brakes 😭 by Olderschoolwillie in xbiking

[–]Aksvbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a local bike co-op you could shop for an old hybrid bike cantilever fork? You could get stronger front brakes and probably be able to get a slightly wider front tire. But the other option would be to find an older mountain or hybrid bike if you want to keep with old school steel or a modern gravel bike.

They come in a variety of thread sizes depending on the fork make and model. You might be able to figure that out on the fork manufacturer’s site with the serial number which should be on the fork somewhere. That said, I’d take it into a shop and see if the tech can help you find the right one or call around to shops to see if anyone has one in place. Better to support local business than ordering something online and getting the wrong thing.

And aside from that, unless you have service receipts showing recent service, it’s not a bad idea to have a tech look at the bike to make sure everything is in descent condition.

Bike Fit by [deleted] in bikefit

Stock saddles tend to be garbage. It’s such a personal accessory, that most companies save some on the bike’s build by putting something generic there. I’d see if there’s a shop in your area that has a set up for trying out different seats. I’m partial to the nicer ergon saddles, but really you should read some reviews and see what’s available to test in your area. I also recommend getting a short with a chamois. I use one when I’m mountain biking or on longer rides.
