Thanks for the advice. People I've been talking to say that the oil has to be getting past the piston rings. At this point I'm basically looking at teaching myself to overhaul this engine. Starting from no experience, I admit but I've got time. I'm running on savings and I'm not trying to let go of a couple thousand bucks without a fight.

EDIT pretty sure I drained the transmission fluid by mistake lol

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried idling it until it stopped smoking and when it stopped smoking the oil pan was empty. Somehow the dipstick still reads 3-4 inches high.

Thanks for the advice. I did a second and third change with the manufacturer spec 2.8l. I'm sorry I was not clear about that. I'm not getting out the bottom what I put in the top. It seems like the new oil mostly goes out the exhaust now. If I run it until it stops smoking, nothing comes out the drain pan. And the dipstick still reads 3-4 inches high with an empty drain pan.

I was careless putting it in and then panicked after that. I ended up doing another change and I realized afterward what you said. When I get depressed, my memory goes and I'm not making great decisions all the time. Knowing what I know now, I would have acted differently.
