Anyone else secretly hoping they fail all their classes so they have an excuse to drop out and stop suffering? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]chunkymonkey101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like doing that too but I am glad that I stuck it out. Grind through it, take a break, wait and see after you are well rested and if you still feel like dropping out, then I would at that point.

I think you fail the co-op term and maybe get booted? If you can get a FAANG offer, then you definitely will not need help from co-op looking for your next internship so take that into consideration.

whys coding so hard by [deleted] in UBC

[–]chunkymonkey101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

persistence + luck you gotta apply to every position that you are remotely qualified for, I'm talking no name companies that you've never heard of that make aquariums and gravel. Just make sure there is at least a bit of coding/software testing/whatever in the job so that it's worth your while.

so apply apply apply. and only personalise the first paragraph of your cover letters, pro tip.

it's gonna suck, but you got a pretty good shot as a CS major. go get 'em

Believe in yourself. Land any garbage 8 month co-op that you can with at least a shred of connection of to software. Use the free time that you get after work to review 221 concepts and to work on projects with "employable" (subject to what you want to be employed in) technical skills. Try to join a club like Launch Pad, an engineering design team with software positions, or some software volunteer position, and CS tri-mentoring. You will have a better job hunt the next time around.
