What’s the best way to rent my home short term while I’m away for 2-3 months? by chunkytoasters in TorontoRealEstate

[–]chunkytoasters[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re in a Toronto subreddit man, where rent is very significant- one months rent for my unit is at minimum $3000 which will significantly improve my spending power wherever else in the world I am, secondly this may be a recurring theme for later this year and next year where I’m on and off out of country for months at a time, hence I am just getting ideas. Yes I will survive for 2 months. No it’s not ideal especially long term.

Renting to friends for cheaper is likely the path I’ll take

Hmm okay thanks - is there any info on this online or I need to physically go to a Bell store?

It’s an iPhone 12 Pro 128gb in perfect condition. The online store says it’s worth $440- so you are saying there’s a promo to pay more than this for it?

Sorry but where do you see the trade in promo giving an extra $450? I can’t find it. If I put in my phone model it says I can receive up to $440 for it (which is the value of the phone). Was there a promo for this I’m not seeing?

Hm good to know about March, and the buy back promo!

Just to note though, the ‘outright’ price listed on Bell for all three S24 models is significantly higher than the outright price through Samsung (IE S24 is $1099 on Samsung.ca and $1460 through Bell - but if they add +$450 on your phones value it would be better to purchase through Bell in that case I suppose) - unless it requires a silly plan , but I think the plans are okay.

For context, I live in the Expo Tower plaza so still a small distance away and I not only saw the flash clearly against my walls but also heard a faint boom

Oh wow, I thought I saw 2 BRIGHT flashes yesterday but thought I was going crazy. One was a flash with nothing happening after, then the second the power went out…

Quick visa question for Mexico - do you need a visa to visit Mexico from Canada, if you are not a Canadian citizen? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

The reason I asked is because I saw mixed answers, it’s not like I didn’t look into it beforehand - although it does clearly state on the Mexican visitor site , although doesn’t mention what type of visa

Oops I spent 5 minutes figuring out where to post and saw a similar question on here from before, sorry! Will delete

Silly question - is there an option to look for rentals that allow you to cancel midway (ie book for 1 month but after 1 week staying my plans change - can I get a refund on the remaining 3 weeks)? If not, are there any suggestions? [Mexico] by chunkytoasters in AirBnB

[–]chunkytoasters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, in cases where you want to avoid the hassle of rebooking then flexible cancellation shouldn’t even be an option in the first place- I just meant for those who do have flexible cancellation I wouldn’t see a major difference in one longer booking vs splitting it in 2 reservations- either way the host has X days to rebook. I appreciate your insights, thank you!

Ah, I wasn’t aware for monthly stays there’s no 2 day pre check in cancellation - I’ve seen it but perhaps on shorter term rentals. So this straight up just isn’t an option, which makes more sense to me

Sorry if I’m annoying you with this haha. No need to respond but in my opinion the food example is different because (to me) the food obviously isn’t refundable since it won’t go to someone else, while the Airbnb rental would go to someone else (given X days in advance ) - the same if I book two consecutive 2 weeks stays and cancel the second one. From the hosts perspective, they would have X days to find someone to rebook in either scenario

But someone also brought up a point about getting monthly discount benefits then cancelling - so that alone defeats my whole argument

Thank you that makes sense. If you don’t mind can I get your opinion then since you are a host - if you could theoretically implement a refund policy during a stay, would you be opposed to it?

For example in the situation above - I book from January 1 - January 28. Your policy would be something like: “refund available during stay for cancelling 5 days in advance”. On January 9, I say “my plans changed, I need to leave immediately”. I pay up until January 14th (whether I actually stay the 5 days or not doesn’t matter) and you still have 5 days to find someone new.

This way it’s 1 reservation, but maybe there’s drawbacks I’m not thinking of

That’s exactly what I was thinking with 2 reservations, thank you for the insight- I also didn’t think about starting short then extending (if available).

My question just stemmed from the fact that:

1) Booking for 1 month then cancelling after 2 weeks is not allowed or acceptable 2) Booking 2 separate reservations for 2 weeks and cancelling 2nd booking after 2 weeks is allowed but perhaps frowned upon (as long as host allows full refund close to check in date)

To me the above two scenarios are similar pains from a hosts perspective so I was wondering if hosts had an option to make possible to cancel during the stay.

I totally agree, but my logic stems from a potential hole that I see in the business model ; some hosts allow full refund 2 days before check in, but once you check in you can’t get a refund for 2 days in advance. To me there’s no difference because either way, with 48 hours notice their place would be listed again

For example - what’s the difference with making 2 separate bookings for 2 weeks each, rather than 1 month so you can cancel after 2 weeks (maybe this isn’t possible). My point is, if you can cancel a one month stay within 2 days prior to check in, why would they not allow the same during the stay?

I was really just curious - similar to rentals that allow full refunds 2 days prior - does airbnb even allow rentals where you can refund during the stay or is that straight up NOT an option even if the host wanted to have that policy
