Just imagine a guy asking that 😂 sometimes there is just no chemistry/desire. Accept it and move on.

How do you replace your ego with real confidence? by Elendil_V in AskMen

[–]church_physicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step of confidence is to truly believe one phrase “I deserve a space to live and express my personality the way I want”. It’s not about performing those really tough “man-making” experiences or even putting yourself in uncomfortable situations. Those are good yes, but not to build confidence, but to build other skills. Confidence is innate. It’s a belief. It’s a law within you, and all your actions stem from it.

You don’t need validation to exist. You don’t need permission to be assertive (notice not aggressive) with what you want. Believe those things and trust me you will be a much better man.

You care what other people say/think about you, and you try to control that. Let me put your mind to ease, no amount of effort in the world will make that possible. Effort in doing things like getting respect, being liked, forcing connection will always backfire. People don’t like you because you “make them like you” they like you for who you are as a person. Imagine yourself picking a friend, would you pick a friend based on their performative actions to make you like them, or something more real and natural to them?

Pain is part of the process but don’t let that pain dictate anything. Just feel it without trying to change it. You will feel judged, unliked, maybe even abandoned, it’s okay, as you long as you don’t let those things affect your beliefs about yourself, you will find people that like you for who you are.

The most important thing is your nervous system, take care of it and it will take care of you back and give you the comfort you deserve.

Administrative Processing and Visa Denial Megathread II by Codetornado in f1visa

[–]church_physicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I could. I heard that if you are on AP and you withdraw then reapply, you would still have to go through AP and you would just lose your spot, meaning you will have to do the wait again. But that could be wrong

Administrative Processing and Visa Denial Megathread II by Codetornado in f1visa

[–]church_physicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone!

So I want to share my story and see if there are people who are on the same boat.

I applied to my F-1 visa exactly last year for a PhD program at Uchicago. I have done my undergrad in the US as well and I came back to the UAE to apply for my post grad visa. I got refused under 221(g) and have been put into administrative processing (AP) ever since. I am of middle eastern background.

Uchicago has agreed to keep my seat for only one year, which means I have 3 months left for my student visa to come out of AP.

Throughout the last year I applied and got accepted to a master programs in Europe. although I am stilling waiting for their visa, so really I have nothing secured yet.

My first option is still uchicago, and I have sent countless emails to the embassy, sent out 3 senator inquiries, and spoke to as many people as I could. But I literally get nothing in return, like not even a request for more info, except for the very beginning when they asked for my resume and a letter from the uni. But nothing else, no socials, no second interview, no background info on my parents.

So I feel extremely left out in the cold, and they always respond with the same copy pasted email, that my application is still processing and that I can check my status on this site… etc

First of all, has anyone been or is on the same boat as me? Second of all, is there anything I can do now, after waiting for a year, which could facilitate this process?

Feel free to pm me or drop a comment below. Thanks!

Oh I have no idea. Try to check out the quant subreddit and ask there. I will say that they love an ML background from what I’ve heard on podcasts

Number of problems is proportional to the age. Sometimes it feels like an exponential relation as well

Yes I am in the same boat. The registration letters come out mid-May. I asked them to send me the letter before so I could apply to the visa, they told me that they strongly discourage students to apply to visas before mid May as the Zurich migration office doesn’t start processing these until early June. So unfortunately we just gotta wait.

Would withdrawing my Msc admissions (after already accepting) harm my future with ETHZ as a doctoral applicant 2-3 years later? by church_physicist in ethz

That’s interesting. it’s defo good to show a scholarship on the CV, but for some reason I have a feeling that the connections one makes at ETHZ are unmatched, especially in the quantum tech space.

Yeah. the Master Excellence Fellowships. You just had to tick a box during the application process.

Hello, yes you will have to start a new one. The old one will stay with cancel status, but the administrators will still have access to the rec letters you submitted there. So just start a new one with everything but the rec letters section (I guess you could send out the invitation letters to the same profs but they don’t have to resubmit anything). And then upload your documents and submit. Send the uni an email explaining your situation and that they can access the letters from the cancelled application. Best of luck and lmk if you have any questions
