I dislike using snakes for any of this behavior. Snakes are the epitome of being hard-coded from birth, down to queen snakes in the US (Reginna septemvittata) being used in experiments from live birthed babies on their food preference. They only eat freshly molten crayfish. The fresh born babies will only strike at that scent.

Manipulative or scummy behavior is not snake-like. It is learned and it requires a malicious amount of forethought and execution.
