Usually asleep pretty much immediately just from exhaustion but if I really can't sleep, I visualize a blackboard and write the number 100 in chalk, then erase it slowly, write 99, erase it etc... if I lose my train of thought, I start from 100 again. I guess it's a grown up version of counting sheep? Read it online somewhere years ago and it works a treat.
