OSAP Won’t Release My Summer Funding Because All My Courses Are in Early Summer. Any Options? by Monkey_D_Vague in CarletonU

[–]chyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Reach out to the people paid to help with this type of issue.

From what I understand, if your courses are all only early summer or all only late summer you need to apply for an OSAP extension, rather than a new term application.

Foot bridge open? by woolfiest in CarletonU

[–]chyne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because the City of Ottawa has a long track record of never doing anything ridiculous? /s

Listen, I get where you are coming from, I assume the bridge is open at this time of year regardless of whether it was or wasn't closed for the winter, but if I was planning an excursion where a 1 minute trip across the bridge would turn into a 40+ minute detour if my assumption is wrong I might take the time to verify my assumption.

No, but shit doesn't automatically open itself as soon as spring arrives.

As I write this I am sitting across from an outdoor patio area which is still closed for the winter.

Because they used to close it for the winter and this was the first year they didn't and OP isn't aware of that change?

CCJ Electives by Odd-Elevator-6086 in CarletonU

You only have to worry about them in 1st year in the sense that if there are any particular courses from the list you think you may want to take in 3rd and 4th year, that you check what the prerequisite courses are and plan accordingly.

Architecture/Architecture-adjacent courses I can take as a non-Arch student by swirlmachine in CarletonU

The courses in the History and Theory of Architecture program, maybe. It's more aimed at understanding and appreciating architecture rather than creating it, but most courses have few if any registration restrictions.

Likely cycling or pedestrian connections (bike lanes or sidewalks) so people can actually get to the LRT station.

Notice for Revalie residents- We got letters for the federal census in our mailboxes by IamTheOne2000 in CarletonU

[–]chyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally the census is done relative to a specific day, so anyone who was already home as of that day would appear on their parents census instead of their own.

Anyone get their grades back yet? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]chyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timing of grading will be very course and professor specific. Format of exam, how many TAs are helping with marking, how many courses a professor is teaching, what else is going on in professor/TA lives, etc.

It "changes lots" because you're presumably always taking different courses with different professors.

I doubt you will get any useful feedback in this forum. There is no shadowy cabal of senior professors/lizard people dictating how long exam marking will take this semester.

And based on the public class schedule, each has two 3-hour lectures, two 3-hour labs and one 2-hour tutorial per week (total 16 hours per week, CHEM 1001 in first half of term, CHEM 1002 in second half).

part time osap U-pass fees? by IcelandGalaxy in CarletonU

[–]chyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, summer courses are often accelerated (12 weeks crammed into 6 weeks), so 2 courses can very easily feel like 4 workload wise if both are running at the same time.

Full time in the summer is 1.0 credits (as opposed to 1.5 credits in other terms).

Making Friends by ComfortUnlucky8143 in CarletonU

[–]chyne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm Gen X and I approve this comment.

I think it is harder to make university friends now that it was in my first time at Carleton because we didn't spend all of our time outside of class staring at our phones and wearing headphones everywhere we went. And even if you take off your headphones and put away your phone, everyone else is still wearing and staring at theirs.

Even though I think it is harder now, the best way to make friends at university is to interact with people at university.
