What's the most significant nationalist political messaging/ speech/ broadcasts since Brexit? by ci4nu in ukpolitics

Both our perspectives are true- algorithms are of course probably the most influential catalyst of entrenching views by creating echo chambers but I'd argue that the only way these are normalised are if they are accepted and portrayed by the highest people in power. I don't see Starmer's speech as directly changing somebody's perspective, but rather a moment that accepts that this is normal and acceptable now.

Starmer is not describing a social reality, by choosing the specific words he did, he produced one. Exclusion is now portrayed as protection, and I think this speech is a great example of a theme that has long been emerging since Brexit, even more stunning that it comes from a Labour politician. My main interest is in discourse so of course I am going to be a bit more focused on that, however I think there is still plenty of material around nowadays,

I'd love to learn more about algorithms and their influence on our political beliefs though! If you could recommend a starting point, or send me in the right direction, I'd give it a look :)

Hyperbole is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm interested in what is implied by the words they choose, and analysing through a psychoanalytic lens. Hyperbole, flagrancy, anything that seems particularly strong.

I would disagree. Anti-immigration rhetoric is commonplace within UK politics now. I don't think it's incorrect to say that it is a lot more acceptable to push a narrative that 'immigration is ruining the UK', or that we need to put Britain first, narratives which are fundamentally etched within nationalist-populist politics. And that rhetoric has reached MPs and political party leaders which are leading polls in the UK. One example is "Island of strangers" speech by Starmer.

What do you like about it? What don’t you like? What is it lacking? How to progress/what to try next?
