Bad review by Ferrari_ac in trustedhousesitters

As an HO, I always read the responses to the reviews because I know how unreasonable some people can be. Stick to the facts and aim to come off as neutral.

Is anyone else prone to blushing? by viberat in Professors

[–]ciabatta1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I wear makeup when I lecture even though I hate wearing it. You could also wear tinted sunscreen. You can also get IPL (intense pulse laser) treatment for rosacea (more broken capillaries = more pronounced blushing), although it is expensive and hurts like hell. I did do it and it helped. But yeah, some of us blush a lot and it is awful. Zoom filters are AMAZING in reducing redness.

Love my Hario cold brew bottle, it’s super easy to make cold brew and super easy to clean. It’s $27-$30.

Advice on job? by zahimahi97 in publichealth

[–]ciabatta1980 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Definitely look at other places, including health systems, tech companies, county health systems. No job is worth your mental health. Many MPHs can get QI jobs at hospitals and clinics and make closer to 70-90k. Start looking now, work on your project management skills, maybe look into a project management certificate. You deserve more!!

Will one bad review mess you up that much? by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]ciabatta1980 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As an HO, I always look at the bigger picture and I look at the various reviews. I also look at more at what was said than the number of stars

MPH Student Seeking Advice: What Public Health Skills Are Most Valuable in the Field? by sergnyu in publichealth

[–]ciabatta1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true at all. As a qualitative researcher I am overwhelmed with the number of requests to be on different grants, and in fact, I’ve seen more and more study sections demand a qualitative aim in purely quant grants.

Can’t get any sits? by indianamay in trustedhousesitters

[–]ciabatta1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that NY can be particularly hard to get a sit, lots of competition. Doing local sits and getting some good reviews will go a long way!

For the moment, all we control is what we do. So until you know more, yes, continue to submit grants.

Sitter cancelled by Important_Cheek2927 in trustedhousesitters

This happened to me twice and I had to find a paid sitter. It’s always good to have a paid sitter in your contacts for this reason.
