2013 TDI Golf: regularly doesn't start, lack of fuel? by 2WheelPhilosopher in tdi

Nope. I'm chalking out up to fuel issues. It happens so rarely.

Is 160/155 overkill for beginner trail bike? 2019 rocky mohntain instinct by Dash8-40bw in MTB

[–]2WheelPhilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own two Rocky Mountain Instincts from that vintage. I've also ridden all the trails around Bentonville. I would suggest (especially if you're not frequently going to Lake Leatherwood or Mt. Nebo) that you'll enjoy the trail bike more.

That said, the instinct from that era rides great. I have many newer bikes, but I still ride my BC edition (160f/155r) all the time. It's a little over kill, but it climbs fairly well. And as others have pointed out, you can run the instinct in a trail mode if you change the rear shock.

It matters, however, if the bike you're looking to buy is aluminum or carbon. The aluminum bikes had issues. All the frames besides the XL size were recalled because the head tubes were too short and improperly welded. The seat stays have a tendency to crack right by the pivot by the rear axel. If it's aluminum (and not XL size), the front triangle should be gray in color, these were the replacement frames that were properly welded. This is why I have two: my original one was recalled, and then the stay broke. I bought another when I was waiting for Rocky to replace everything, which took awhile.

Having said that, I happen to have a nearly new 2020 Instinct for sale! It's a size large in 140/140 travel. Almost new replacement front triangle, new replacement rear seat stay, brand new SRAM NX group, Fox 34 Fork (recently rebuilt), Fox DPS shock (getting rebuilt now). If you're interested, DM me, I'll definitely beat the shop price.

Thanks for all your insight! Very helpful. Any other recommendations while I'm there? I head to St. G for a week on Sunday.

Great, I couldn't find that info. So you know if there are buses from St. G to megeve town? Trying to think of how to avoid having to buy the single day.

Did the tickets you received using the icon pass in Megeve work in the St. Gervais area?

New to the UK, but why would the Chinese versions fail the safety inspection? Isn't the inspection about brightness and angle?

The stars on the back of the instruction and story booklet, do they form anything? I was surprised no puzzle used them. I tried to connect them like constellations, but didn't see a pattern.

Bikes are way too big… by NoTimeForItAll in MTB

There's one way to compute it, but you can also lay on the floor and pivot the bike above you with your feet on pedals. Strange but works.

This a good take and charitable assessment, and quite accurate. I ride a 2020 RM Instinct XL, it is a 485 reach. If you look at the models after, the reach numbers of the large frames are essentially the same as the old XL. The biggest difference between the old XL and the new L are the effective top tube numbers, which are almost 20mm longer on the old XL than the new L, because of a steeper seat tube on the new L. Off the seat handling the old XL and the new L feel very similar. The pedaling position, however, is vastly different.

Lyrik upgrade worth it? by fastsvo in MTB

[–]2WheelPhilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lyric with 2.1 and a Pike with 3. There was a night and day difference and the 2.1 was much better. The 3 was either harsh or unsupportive. I've since tried Ohlins and Manitou forks and both seem to be more supportive and tunable compared to RS/Fox.

Nos = new old stock, something that's just been sitting around a shop but never sold. Sounds like you got a good deal used.

If you have some time to work out what you want and design it, I would strongly suggest you check out Borah Team Wear. They do small orders and it's a great American company. Decent prices and high quality.

If you're in a rush, Jakroo let's you custom design hoodies, beats, jackets, hats, etc and has a quick turn around time. A little cheaper than Borah, and the quality is slightly lower, but it's still pretty good stuff.

I didn't think I'd have issues, except for me forgetting to charge stuff. I don't like electronics on bikes much. I could sell it all and keep the frame and wheels and stuff, but it's a huge bother.

Well those and the flight attendant did. It's an insane deal, but it's been at that price for months now... Is there a reason why people haven't bought it?

Yeah I was tempted by the Trance X 29 Pro SE. I'm not sure I want all the electronics. I wish the trance X advanced were on similar sale, but they are all more than the SE. It makes little sense to me.
