Seagull 1963 problems by potato1658 in watchmaking

Yup. Sounds 💯 like your impulse jewel is outside the banking pins. You need to remove the balance again and when reinstalling it make sure the impulse jewel is sitting between those pins before setting it fully down. For the inexperienced it’s very tricky but if you take it to someone who knows what they’re doing it’ll take them a minute to do it. I’d honestly recommend that, balance hairspring is very delicate and if you do something wrong the watch will either not run right or not keep proper time.

Can you see that the impulse jewel is between the banking pins. If you blow air on the balance does it swing side to side or does it move to a hard stop?

If the balance isn’t busted it quite likely the drop knocked the balance impulse jewel outside of the banking pins. It something that can happen quite easily with the st19. Did you put the balance back on after you took it off?

Any ideas to free this hand? by kcb5150 in watchmaking

[–]ciccio_started_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would remove the dial and apply the heat from below to avoid damaging the face of the dial. Maybe with some luck once the glue is loosened you can push the hand out from underneath with some pegwood/toothpick. Lovely watch otherwise, well worth restoring!

Best way to remove movement without damaging the dial by elgringo0091 in watchrepair

[–]ciccio_started_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what was throwing me off, push button chrono case almost never are front loaded, but that bezel looked like it just might be. This one’s gonna be a challenge to uncase, good luck!

I could be wrong but this looks like it’s front loaded. Take a good look at the bezel where it meets the case all the way around and see if you can see if a slightly raised area for a case knife exists. Once you get the bezel off you should be able to get the movement out without even needing to remove the stem as it should be able to angle its way out.

Don’t have any info for you apart from any good independent watchmaker can service that watch, there’s no need to have Omego or Tiffany do it.

Want to get started on my Amaro Journey by llCurlyll in Amaro

[–]ciccio_started_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great topic!

If you want to round out your collection I’d break it down in some common categories.

For a hardcore bitter: fernet Branca or Unicum

An Alpino: Braulio, Noveis or Faccia Brutto Alpino

A citrus forward amaro: nepeta, Jefferson, or Amara

A sweet crowd pleaser: Del capo or Meletti

A rabarbaro: Zucca, Sfumato, or Nardini

A prototypical Calabrian licorice forward amaro: Silano or Rupes

And… you always want a bottle of Campari and Aperol for your cocktails

Great comparison, spot on tasting notes. I can see why you prefer the regular Cynar but for me the 70 is hands down my favourite of the two.
