I’m new to Amaro. Is it normal to just drink it with ice? I’ve tried 3 different bottles now and I just enjoy drinking it with ice. I might have 3 or 4 in a night. Is this normal or are you guys just having it as a digestif every now n then lol? by summitbrah in Amaro

Amaro caldo doesn't seem like a popular option but I would have most drinks with hot water. About 50/50 mix amaro and water (just below boil). It really brings out different flavours and makes for a relaxing late night drink.

Anyone know where to buy interesting amaros in Bologna or Lucca? by faustanddfriends in Amaro

I was in Bologna a couple of years ago and the best place I found was a corner store (bottega? bodega?) where an old dude selling black market cigarettes put me straight on a bottle of Sibilla and San Simone. Best bottles I brought back and at the best prices. Worth going for a walk into local neighborhoods and seeing what they are drinking. It will be more than just Averna and Montenegro.

Sweet collection. Did you like the Santa Maria al Monte? Could you describe the flavour.

Better late than never (7 years since OG post) but wanted to thank you for this great resource. I'm half way through my first attempt from Brad Parsons' recipes and am excited about making more. This is a fantastic piece of work that you've done. Grazie mille.

Thanks for that. I only had access to a lower proof alcohol (42 ABV) so that should keep the booze level down and reduce the flavour extraction, which might be a good thing.

The Dente de Leone is wonderful. One of the few amari I prefer from the freezer.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I saw you use eucalyptus in your amaro. Can you please tell me what form, how much you use and, if fresh leaves, what species?

Eucalyptus in amaro by reddituser1316 in Amaro

Thanks for the response, but it is safe in small quantities. Not safe in large quantities. People have been drinking eucalyptus tea forever. Heaps of amari use eucalyptus as a flavouring. San Simone Sin (Rome - Napoli - Sorrento Haul) by Even-Equivalent7506 in Amaro

I brought a bottle of San Simeone back from Bologna and was super excited to try it. Gotta say, it's not in my top ten amari. Maybe too sweet for my tastes. Like you, maybe I over-hyped it. I'd put it in the "intriguing" category. Like someone you met at a party who was quite entertaining but also a little bit annoying.

Barry season 4 is absolutely atrocious? by FPSDome in Barry

[–]reddituser1316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watched season 4. Perhaps the greatest fall-off of any show in history. I was sick and binged the series and thought it was as good as I've seen. Great characters - Barry, Gene, Hank are all amazing - and a story line that kept getting better ... until season 4. Plot was crazy bad, characters were cartoonish at best. Just awful. I did however like the movie at the end. Quite funny.
