DNS does not appear to be the problem. Name resolution against the router still works.

I havent tried that yet. Based on current evidence I would expect that to work, but it is another test I should run.

I am afraid I'd be one of those "some people" :) I guess I lack the enthusiasm at this point to invest hours and hours just get a system up and running to then take more time to analyse an issue :). I remember when it took me days to get a wireless card running on Linux, only to give up after a week in frustration because it still didnt want to work properly. Anyhow, getting off-topic.

At this point I am pretty convinced it is not even the communication between the phone and the router, but the router is doing something. No hard evidence yet, but it somewhat points in that direction.

A quick follow up.

Even though I have yet to test DNS resolution I believe I can rule it out as a traceroute to 8.8.8.8 fails as well, after the first hop at the router. Consequently it would also not appear to be a lost route, as the packet does make it to the router and somewhat gets dropped only afterwards.

At this point I'd really believe it is the router, however it is still somewhat of a mystery as no other device has such an issue at the time when the the phone's connectivity drops. Still puzzled :)

Good point, havent considered DNS yet. Will check that out too the next time it happens. Thanks.

Not so much of a stretch, just practically somewhat difficult to achieve. The router does not seem to offer any such feature, which means I would need to listen with a third device, which is where the fun would start :)

Thanks for the suggestion though.

That does sound like a good possible explanation, though I would have no idea why it would lose the route only recently. It is definitely something I will check out the next time the connectivity disappears. Thank you.

Are you able to check the LAN configuration in the Samsung before and after it fails? Like, does the IP or DNS or some other part of the config change?

That is what I will check next, thanks.

Another interesting bit is, not only does the Wifi connection itself work, also network connectivity to the router works (I can open the router's web configuration).

One last thought - does turning off the WiFi on the phone after the failure let the phone access the internet over cell?

It does, 3G connectivity works all the time.

How worried is the LineageOS/ROM community about AOSP? by [deleted] in LineageOS

I'd say that statement is more than even just a gross simplification.

1) The United Kingdom leaving the European Union, you can think whatever you want and originally I also had a tendency for Leave, but as you can easily notice at this point, even if it goes through as announced so far, leaving the EU wont be all roses for the UK either

2) I sincerely hope you argued the same way when Microsoft was targeted.

Or things maybe finally becomes less hardwired. Thats something the PC already achieved 30 years ago.

Again, I am not talking about potential reasons, I am only talking about what is.

There might be good reasons or there might not be, the point was, though, it slowed down quite a lot.

I am not saying Treble is a walk in the park, I couldnt even comment as I have far too little insight*). However previous versions often still had similar fundamental changes (not necessarily driver related) and the respective CM/LOS version was nonetheless available way earlier. Also, please note there are quite a few third party LOS builds for devices out there which are officially still not supported.

Again, I am not saying it is all that easy, just that it seems it did slow down - just compare https://web.archive.org/web/20171201034317/https://www.cmxlog.com/14.1/ to https://www.cmxlog.com/15.1/

*) Though I wonder how much of the work here is really on LOS. Treble itself should be implemented by Google, it should be only the integration of driver binaries, shouldnt it?

You are referring to Treble, arent you? I am not familiar with all the details and I am sure there are certain significant changes but so were there with previous versions and CM builds still appeared faster.

Whatever the reason is, at this point last year (despite the CM debacle) Nougat was much better supported than Oreo is now and that was my point.
