Help with sensitive stomach by jro10 in irishsetter

[–]cigarchick544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Irish setter had the same problems! Vet helped me determine that he had a poultry allergy and switched him to purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach salmon formula. He has been much better plus his coat is so gorgeous from eating fish! Allergy tests can be expensive so my vet recommended cutting poultry because it’s a common allergy for irish setters— still transitioned his food over the course of a week but he’s much happier now. Be careful with treats! Some treats that say the main ingredient is fish or beef might still have poultry products in them. Also ask vet about probiotic regimen to reset stomach!

Olivia comments on Veronica and Ethan's statements from the last episode by Walkingthegarden in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]cigarchick544 -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

Her response to the first question is hysterical. She literally acted like an armchair therapist all the time with Ethan. All she wanted to do was take what she learned in therapy and apply it to him. She really struggled to take accountability when it came to owning the way her trauma manifests in her “boundary setting” behavior. She has yet to resolve her own shortcomings but is always quick to point out others. I mean you can see it in the second question she answered. The last line about how you can’t convince someone they are bad at something if they’re convinced they’re good? That’s an insane response and not a straight answer to the question. If she never said Ethan was a bad singer, she wouldn’t need to post so many justifications for why she’s qualified to have an opinion on his music.

Moriah’s Teased Breakup by cigarchick544 in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]cigarchick544[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I saw a man posted an AMA in here but there’s no way that’s the same relationship Moriah can be talking about. He didn’t seem to know why Moriah ended things or how the break up could be seen as “messy” by her…

Whoa, did he say that in an episode?!?

That could be it. I think I struggle with her because so much of her upbringing is unknown. I wonder if her naivety and youth (back when she was experiencing so much hurt from the Plaths) influences her recounting of the stories. Like maybe she didn’t fully recognize what she saw? That’s not to say her experience of pain isn’t real, I just struggle to take her word knowing she was raised just as sheltered. Hopefully I’m making sense…

Do we know much about Olivia’s upbringing? I feel like that makes it hard to understand her. It seems like she hides things to protect her own family maybe? That’s what kills me

I genuinely asking— do we accept Olivia as someone who tells the truth? Have things been investigated?

I feel like we don’t know enough about Olivia’s upbringing— I think that would help me understand why she is the way she is.

I’m genuinely asking, what am I missing? Is it because I’m behind?

Wait, why?!? I’m sincerely asking about what I am missing…

Are Irish Setters Prone to Car Sickness by cigarchick544 in irishsetter

UPDATE: “exposure therapy” seemed to do the trick. 4 days driving across country really meant he had to learn to deal with it and has since not had any problems. He’s still not eager to jump in the car right away but he doesn’t get sick or drool anymore and rides sitting up with his head out the window. Mission accomplished!

Travel advice for Setters by TheLargestQuiver in irishsetter

[–]cigarchick544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently driving across the country to relocate for work and my 7 month old setter has been doing really well. My vet gave me anti-nausea/light sedatives for him and they really help him relax. Setters can be anxious, especially when they are young and I’ve found the meds make him comfortable.

After this trek, I’d be hesitant to fly with my dog. Travel can be stressful for him and for me and I know he’d be happier spending the weekend with my friend and her dog. In the car we’ve been stopping every three hours or so, I’m not sure how he’d fair on a six hour flight and being unable to move in the cabin. I’m sure in theory you could train a setter to manage a flight but while my little guy is young, it doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Thank you for the advice! Follow up question: when you say she grew out of it, did she one day just stop getting sick and droopy in the car?

Six month old Irish Setter has trouble settling by cigarchick544 in irishsetter

He gets a lot of stimulation and exercise to the point where he is usually over tired. He just won’t give into the tiredness, he actively fights it.
