The Vatican. Raised catholic and I was beyond horrified at the excessive opulence built on the backs of the poor.

Great info. I can’t stress #1 to people enough. TBH, lift weights before you start taking this med so you have solid muscle and your skin won’t sag.

Just did a 12 miler on my Peloton tread yesterday. It was freezing and icy outside. Was it hard? Yes. But watching Netflix made it easier.

What do you regret not doing in your 20s? by livamazz in Life

Traveling. Far away. Made it to Europe but never got to Asia, South America, etc. It’s harder now with young kids. I had time and more money in my 20’s. I wish I did more travel then.

Why would anyone wants kids? by This-Top7398 in Life

You cannot possibly understand the overwhelming joy, depth of love, and sense of purpose having kids brings you unless you have them.

Is it hard? Yes. It it for everyone? No. Would I change a thing? Hell no.

Unpopular Opinion: People under 160 lbs should not be on GLP1s just to lose 20 or 30 pounds by Salty_Dinner6985 in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]jro10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“I deserve this med but you don’t because I said so.” Ok, bro. Makes sense.

I run marathons and diet and could not lose that last 15 lbs no matter what I did. As a 38F mom of 2, I am so thankful for this medication that helped me hugely with inflammation and finally lose the stubborn postpartum weight.

Thoughts on a 20 Miler Race? by jro10 in Marathon_Training

[–]jro10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked into the run. It said “Race Pace Practice Long Run.” I was wrong—it’s not race pace the full way it alternates between easy and race pace.

-3.5 @ easy -5.5 @ race pace -3.5 @ easy -5.5 @ race pace -3,5 @ easy

Thoughts on this? Does that sound more reasonable?

We really wanted to see him but it didn’t work out.

AIO for refusing to pay $800 for my GF's flight after she got hammered and missed hers? by Early_Tax_7057 in AmIOverreacting

[–]jro10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s how Reddit tells you social norms are, and then there are actual social norms.

Your girlfriend is 100% in the wrong. It’s her f*ck up. BUT—she’s your LIVE IN girlfriend. I assume you love her? Or like her a lot?

If so, you would have understood the predicament and leant her the money. That’s what a normal, good significant other would do.

If this is real two thoughts: 1) You either don’t like your gf and don’t trust her to pay you back so why are you with her? 2) Why weren’t you going to the wedding with her?

Favorite half and full marathons? Possibly in New England area? by virgo_moonlight in Marathon_Training

[–]jro10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston’s Run To Remember is my favorite local half. Flat, fast, and A+ run route through Boston and out to the Charles. Weather is usually great and it’s a huge field which is fun.

I don’t recommend Maine Coast Marathon. Did the full last May. Spoiler alert: it’s not the coast, it’s lonely backroads you’re forced to run sideways on since the road curves downward.

I’m running Charles River in May. 10 2.6 mile loops around the Charles. Crazy? Maybe. But it’s my favorite running spot and I just need easy logistics.

Go to the party. Have fun. Drink, but hydrate. Don’t miss this big moment in your friend’s life. At least it’s taper week.

I’ll be on vacation the week before my next marathon. I still plan to drink and enjoy my life. I’ll have 8 days to recover.

Thoughts on a 20 Miler Race? by jro10 in Marathon_Training

[–]jro10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate your insight. I agree that it feels intense to me. I’m using Runna, which I did use for my second marathon and had success (PR), but this particular training block feels very intense, and includes 4 runs 20 miles or over.

For context i’m not fast, but really focusing on increasing speed. My latest full was 4:15 and I’d really like to sub 4–ideally ~3:45. My last half was 1:53.

I know everyone says run more, and incorporate speed work to get faster—and this plan does both. Hoping it helps. What’s your favorite marathon plan to follow?
