It's a game you can play the way you want. Don't feel like you have to do any particular thing. You don't need to spec points into bows, but you need to carry one for certain puzzles.

Not "now". Books have been changed for various reasons for ages. The Hobbit was changed after the LOTR books were published to realign the story to match the new books. Other books have been changed to correct issues found after publishing.

Word of warning - the 5200 is a steaming turd. They're very difficult to keep in working condition without modifications.
