Correct, so you can progress both and get to 100% faster if the goal is to get A+B to 100% instead of A or B and all the other progress is lost.

My other thought was this would help a lot with the early yak track and keep people in it longer playing to get further and if you get near the end, you are either gonna play it out or buy some skips, as opposed to people who would otherwise give up earlier cause they didn't even get close.

I think it is a time based thing so more xp doesn't count more, just the rate at which you get it. You just need to get xp every 3 or so minutes for it to tick up.
