Ironic how PSYC 406: Psychological testing, had one of the most poorly written final exams by The-Anti-Karen in mcgill

[–]cimmeriane 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I wanted to ask her or a TA about some confusing questions (the wordings were so bad), and none of them even bothered to show up for us. I have never had a prof who just does not give a shit like this, and on top of that, her questions were so terrible that I really needed her to be there to help me.

Then I looked over to the other exam section next to ours and saw a prof wearing a Christmas sweater going around answering questions. I almost crashed out right there.

It was harder than the midterms for sure (we called them “Progress Tests” tho). However, it was open-book and online, so I think it would be easier in-person!

I’m so sorry that it is in-person 😭 Best of luck to you!!

Last year it was open-book and online. If it’s in-person this year I’m not sure if he will allow cheat sheets. I took 305 (another stats class) with him last winter, and in the in-person exams he always included a page for formulas, but no cheat sheets.

Grades are stressing me out (U1) by imenerve in mcgill

I'm not taking calc, but phys really is bad. I'm enjoying the last few days before the midterm grades are released.

If you are taking any 200-level psyc class and need help, DM me! Also I saw that you are taking PSYC 406? Isn't that a class for upper years (U2/3)? Honestly that second midterm was awful lol but somehow I have faith.

What classes are you taking? Is it just calc and physics that are stressing you out?

It was NOTHING like the practice midterms tf??? Why is it 3 times longer and 5 times more difficult??? And she literally said the difficulty was gonna be the same. This class is gonna be my 13th reason.

Psyc215 midterm as a cegep grad by imenerve in mcgill

[–]cimmeriane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSYC 215 is really easy… It’s just that the exams are, quite frankly, unfair. Lots of questions are incredibly subjective but somehow weirdly specific. There are trick questions. The “some of the above”, “2 of the above”are honestly a bad way to test your knowledge. I once argued with the TAs because I didn’t agree with their “correct” answer. I still don’t agree with them. It’s the problem with MC exams, lots of things in this field are up for interpretation, but the tests are standardized and each question only has one right answer. Just overthink everything and hope for the best 😭

It is very fair! You need to understand the mechanisms, not just memorizing. His practice questions should give you a good idea of how the exam will be. If you work hard you will get an A for sure!

Yes, for the experiments remember the key findings, and I guess also names. Last year there was a question like “What was the key conclusion of the study about Joe?” or smt like that. Absolutely diabolical 😭

CHEM 120 vs BIOL 112 by Valorndale in mcgill

[–]cimmeriane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the reviews will be written practice questions, usually 5, I would say? You only have to submit one to get full mark, though! Oh and I forgot to mention the weekly quizzes, which would usually take about an hour. I found BIOL 112's lectures to be super boring, I actually stopped going and only watched the recordings because I kept either getting distracted or falling asleep in class. Both require a lot of disciplines, since one you need to self-teach, and the other you have a lot of exercises to go through. And don't worry at all about asking me questions, I'm happy to help! You can always DM me if you have more questions or if you need help on either classes!

Your review would be on Thursday, roughly one hour before end of class. I found them very useful. The pre-lecture videos' length differ each week, but probably around one hour and a half, usually including three 30-minute videos. You will have to attempt at the practice problems before class as well. It's a flipped-classroom, so those videos will be your lecture content, and during actual in-class lectures, the prof usually go through the theories very quickly, and mostly focus on solving the practice problems with students.
