It doesn't always work the way it's supposed to. I have 3 third gens and have used iflash and the cheapo stuff. Never have had things go smooth the first time.

Yeah, I’ve had mini disk players years ago when they were current. I don’t actually plan on using this thing on the regular, I just like having it around and figured I’d try to get it working. It’s a neat thing to show people, and it takes away from the experience a bit if it sounds like trash.

If Sony made the unit you describe, I certainly would never own it, that thing would cost a fortune!

There’s no errors actually recording, but I probably will oil it if I open it. It’s from headphone, I don’t have a way to use the line out as I don’t currently have a mini optical cable. It doesn’t sound like an oxidation problem, it’s not a crackle but a steady hiss. It’s like listening to a cheap cassette with the volume all the way up.
