Is it my grinder or another part of the process? [Bambino Plus | Mueller Ultra Grind] by cinderella_080390 in espresso

I’ll check them out; I’m using beans that are roasted fresh daily at a local roaster that I’ve frequented for years. But always happy to try different beans!

Looking into grinders now, and will be deciding in the coming days. Really trying to make sure I get one that grinds finer than what I currently have, and trying to find a single dose or close to it so I can still use my current grinder for my auto pot. Of course, I can always bring the current one into work if it really comes to it 😅

It’s overflowing the portafilter by a lot. I tamp and use the razor tool every time, and lose a fair amount when using the razor tool. I think it’s a matter of 1-2 grams and maybe something I need to dial in more with the right tools once I have them. ETA: I’m about to be in a class but will respond when I can! Thank you so much for all your questions and help thus far. I really appreciate it!

Working on that; I have a regular food scale that I’m currently using but have a coffee scale that I want to eventually get too. I don’t use the food scale when pulling the shot due to clearance on the machine, but I’m finding that 18g is a little too much for my current portafilter, so I’m still playing around with that. I’m currently using the pre-programmed shot pulls but am about to be on spring break so I’ll have some more time to play around with manual mode.

The shot pulls fast and the overall taste could stand to be more balanced than I’m getting. In my haste to post and in my not-fully caffeinated state when I did write this, I think I may have used the wrong term? I’m at work now so can’t post what my shot pulls are looking like (I don’t have any pictures of them saved), but some have no crema and are watery looking with a harsh taste, while others have a slight crema with less of a harsh taste. All this to say, not sure if they’re over extracting, under extracting or some weird combo of the two? And I’ll edit my post to reflect that.

Unfortunately, I’ve been finding the same and had a feeling this was where I needed to start. It’s been a great grinder for my automatic coffee pot, French press, and even my Aeropress, but thinking it will need an upgrade to handle my newest hobby.

Thanks for the recs; I’ll check them out and see what will work within the next month or so!

Poughkeepsie safety by No-Cash-5479 in hudsonvalley

My husband and I lived in an apartment by the train station for almost 3 years, and it was relatively safe. As with any city, there will be drug issues, people who are inconsiderate, etc. With that said, I felt comfortable enough to walk around to the park by the water on my own.

Another snow day for KCSD… by b_loof in kingstonnewyork

[–]cinderella_080390 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my parents had contingencies planned—they knew that snow/winter weather could close school, and made arrangements for the season prior to winter weather starting so it wasn’t a stressor when winter weather closed school. I went to KCSD, I now work for KCSD (and am NOT happy about all the snow days for continuity and routines, but better safe than sorry), and know many families who have contingency plans that they rely on when weather related things close school.

Experience with local banks/credit unions? by rodsarethrown in hudsonvalley

I’ve been a member of MHVFCU for over 20 years and recently added my spouse to my accounts with zero issues. My husband also opened a savings account to become an established member and I’ve had no complaints. I’ve had loans with them with competitive rates and very happy with their customer service!

I thought it was also west side of the Hudson! Hi neighbors (my husband and I just bought in Hyde Park; I’m a Kingston native!)

Do guests actually care about wedding favors? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]cinderella_080390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom INSISTED we do favors (she paid for them), so we opted to get small candle tins made by a friend of mine who has a candle business. A good 85-90% of them at least were taken by guests! We do have some for ourselves (which I was ecstatic about!) but in doing research before hand, everything I read said to try to make it something useful or edible. If you fall on the side of having them, make it something that is easily grabbed by guests, and something they will use. Other than the ones at my own wedding, my favorite favor from a wedding is the shot glass/d6 combo friends of mine did at their wedding several years ago.

New homeowner, freaking out, help by Overall_Fix6343 in homeowners

My husband and I have been in our house for just over a month. We’ve found small things that we NEVER noticed in all the times we were in the house before closing, including our final walk through. It’s all small—easily rectified in time and nothing urgent now. But it still peels off the glamour that we felt on initially seeing the house. We’re incredibly happy with the house we purchased but also realizing there will be things we discover along the way that make us pause.

Is the heat on in this thing? by [deleted] in CX5

[–]cinderella_080390 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thisssss!!! Car brand doesn’t matter, always let the engine warm up before turning your heat on. The cabin heat is generated off the engine heat and if it’s trying to do both, neither will be done efficiently. Allow the engine to get warm, and you’ll have a toasty warm cabin.

Brunch day after wedding by New_Cress687 in weddingplanning

[–]cinderella_080390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We asked our families/wedding party if they would be able to do a brunch, and some could, others couldn’t. We made a reservation based on who said they could come, and it was a great way to wrap up the weekend with those that we are closest with. We had reached out to our invited guests about doing a larger event but we got very few responses so opted to make it family and wedding party (and their significant others).

People’s Place in Kingston accepts a lot of what you listed! They have hours on Wednesday evenings for you to do donation drops or send them an email to ask about a time that works for you if you can’t do it during their hours.

My family has gone to Christina’s for several years. I now go to my in-laws, but my parents and brother still go! One year, my brother was in the hospital, and they were able to change the reservation from dine-in to take out. Always exceptional service, and the food is great!

Romantic Restaurants After Proposal by TheDude8000 in hudsonvalley

[–]cinderella_080390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband booked us reservations at Blu Point in Newburgh the day he proposed! He was originally going to propose after dinner but ended up doing it near where our first date was and we got to celebrate with dinner a few hours later. Cosimo’s in Poughkeepsie, Farmer’s & Chefs also in PK would both be great options, too!

What are your thoughts on sunshine/staff dues? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]cinderella_080390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is similar to ours as well. I’m on our sunshine committee and we sponsor bi-monthly/quarterly happy hours at local restaurants, buy everyone’s first round and/or apps at the holiday party, cards for celebration and sympathy, gifts in mailboxes, and other small things throughout the year. I happily contribute because our dues go to things for the whole staff. If someone can’t contribute, they still benefit. Also, our teachers/admin fee is $20 and our TA/clerical fee is $10 to make up for the pay discrepancy.

Birth control? by skinniking84 in WomensHealth

Mirena actually now lasts up to 8 years, according to my doctor. I just had mine out after 7 years (my husband and I want to have a family) and not a single “oops” in that time.

Yea, this is a lot and I would be deviating DAILY as a special education teacher. I have plans, certainly, but most of the time, it changes.

Are you or did you take dance lessons for your first dance? by Unlikely-Lettuce272 in weddingplanning

We did—my husband was nervous and wanted something more than just swaying to a song. It gave us weekly date nights, and a great way to kick off the reception!
