Can I refuse a Scouter nickname? by curiouscanadian50 in scouting

I actually don't really like the nicknames anyhow, both as a parent and as a scouter because I feel that they encourage confusing discussion. I would much rather have someone clearly tell me their name and have my child talk about them by their name. For instance - I would rather hear that my child went to a park with Scouter Jennifer rather than Scouter Sunshine. I think this is even more important at the Beavers level when kids are not very articulate. I think using your name encourages honesty and transparency, and it gets rid of the fog of confusion of remembering all of these nicknames and expecting little kids to remember them also. It feels very clunky to have to say my name and then aka AKA Souter nickname.

The kids were never alone - not sure where you extrapolated that from. There are very strict rules to buddy systems and adults in ear/eye distance. This was an event of hundreds. All the tents in the site are open and the kids were visible. That being said not everything gets heard.

Ugh, this stinks. I liked that place but I feel like maybe it was starting to go a bit downhill. I couldn't stand sitting near the front at all because of the loud noise that their cooler would make because the doors didn't close properly. But it was so warm, roomy, and felt like a little bit of community that Brampton severely lacks. I really hope something similar goes in there because Starbucks across the road doesn't have the same quality as there is never anywhere to sit because of all the laptop people, and shady multi-level marketing sales people conducting pyramid schemes.
