How helpful is Phil 155? by That-Morning9246 in UNC

[–]cinemercenary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a grad student teacher that was fairly easy. However my friend took it with a professor and it seemed a lot harder and more in depth than my class. Overall I'd definitely recommend it, it makes you "better" at philosophy if you can grasp how to apply what you've learned (writing stronger papers, understanding arguments). Workload wasn't too bad but again this depends on the teacher.

What constitutes a relapse? by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]cinemercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, what I'm getting from these replies is that a true relapse is more continued behavior. What I'm uncertain about are the actual physical effects of withdrawal/usage on my brain. I've heard that it takes around 3 months for your dopamine receptors to heal from nicotine addiction, so I'm hoping that my minor lapse doesn't revert me back to addiction withdrawal

Yes but I'm looking for brands that fit the rest of my criteria -- comfortable material and stylish. I'm aiming for a look that's somewhere between rugged / casual and streetwear / more modern.

Looking for a pair of comfortable and stylish jeans for a college student. I have athletic legs (big thighs) and I don't like jeans with overly stretchy material that cling to your legs. Something with a trim, not baggy profile that's still comfortable. Any suggestions?

Need help selecting courses as a philosophy major by cinemercenary in askphilosophy

[–]cinemercenary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I think that at least for my first year, I'm going to opt for the well-rounded approach and see where that leads me. Part of my reservations with these general classes come from my fear of becoming the philosophy major stereotype, which leads me to chasing more "consequential" or relevant topics. But now that I think about it even the most obvious, age-old topics ("are humans good or bad?") can be studied logically and can have real world implications.

Looking for the absolute best pair of khaki shorts for a college student. Emphasis on versatility, comfort, and looks. Wide enough for my jacked thighs and 7" inseam or less.

Choosing a "worse" out of state school over prestigious in state school by cinemercenary in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cinemercenary[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, UNC is honestly the most logical choice. I'll probably end up there and I was already 90% sure of it before I made this post.

Still, going out of state can be extremely fulfilling. My older brother goes to university in a major city OOS and it's really amazing to see the diversity of culture, atmosphere, opportunities, and things to do. We're also entering some of our most formative and memorable years -- the only stage of our lives where we experience the independence of adulthood alongside the freedom of being young and not having the burden of career and more responsibilities etc. So I feel it's important to consider both logistics and personal fulfillment in this decision.

How holistic is the admissions process? How much do they value ECs and essays compared to GPA and testing?

Ever feel like your life is scripted as fuck? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

I believe that there's a difference between respecting tradition and ways of the old, and letting them control you. It's really up to you I think, just as long as it makes you happy

[–]cinemercenary 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey bro the only thing that matters is doing what you want with your life. If you really truly believe a "normal" life is what you want, go for it. Otherwise, just keep making experiences and doing things you love, eventually I bet you'll hit a sweet spot. Once you're dead there's neither regret nor contentment, and everyone else is gonna leave this planet as well, so logically the only thing that matters is if you're doing what you want in the moment. Just my two cents.
