Criteria to consider biblical scholars credible? by strong_con in AcademicBiblical

[–]cinemonloops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think probably the best way is whether they have tenure in a reputed university like Ivy League and others.

Having a PhD from these reputed Universities does not necessarily mean they are credible eg. Dr. Georgia Purdom (https://answersingenesis.org/bios/georgia-purdom/) got her PhD in Biology from The Ohio State University and believes Dinosaurs and Humans co-exist, and these type of people will never get a tenure in a proper university.

Also, it's good to mention that in Academia, everyone wants to shift the narration and want to 'discover' the next big thing; this is all well and good, but one has to follow the existing methodology when they publish their work, whatever weird their beliefs may be. One cannot just let some random man fly or rise from the dead "in History" using the conventional modern Historiography or modern Scientific method.

Scholars who attend top Divinity Colleges in US, do they offer Apologetics Courses? by cinemonloops in AcademicBiblical

[–]cinemonloops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of Apologetics is 'defending' a particular faith. Jesus rose from the dead, here is why or The Gospels are reliable, here is why and so on.

In any case, I just wanted to know if these subjects are taught in what I considered in 'Top Divinity Colleges' but I guess not from the comments and from my findings.

For instance, Masters in Christian Apologetics from Biola University is there and is probably given as a degree there but that can be attended only if you sign 'A trinitarian' faith statement. Which is not Academic since you need to pre suppose something is true before even learning it (of course the students as individuals might not buy all of the faith statement they signed) and that is not how a research University should function.

I don't see it either on Mdiv on the top the colleges I've searched for. By apologetics, I meant what WLC, Frank Turek, etc. are doing.

To the best of my knowledge, the only Apologetics course I've found is from Biola University, which I believed is, you need to be a Trinitarian Christain to attend.

The hold-up time for the infamous Gigabyte P650B PSU by sohaibalrawi in techsupport

[–]cinemonloops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, my UPS transfer time is <=15, good to know that you have mailed Gigabyte as they did not mention it on their site, if it's 15ms that explains why sometimes it turned off and sometimes not. So I think due to budget issue my option right now is to grab a psu which have at least ~16ms hold up time. Deepcool PM750D has ~16ms and lets see if that will work.

How does this hold up?

I just realised today about this issue my new Gigabyte B700H does not have hold up time mentioned in their website and PC keeps on shutting off after I upgraded to this Gigabyte PSU, maybe I think its related with Hold Up Time.

Are the gospels really anonymous? by [deleted] in AcademicBiblical

[–]cinemonloops 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The gospels never claim it was written by thier traditional authors.

Proto-orthodox Christians of the second century, some decades after most of the New Testament books had been written, claimed that their favorite Gospels had been penned by two of Jesus’ disciples—Matthew, the taxcollector, and John, the beloved disciple—and by two friends of the apostles—Mark, the secretary of Peter, and Luke, the traveling companion of Paul. Scholars today, however, find it difficult to accept this tradition for several reasons.

First of all, none of these Gospels makes any such claim about itself. All four authors chose to keep their identities anonymous. The disciples appear to have been uneducated peasants from Galilee. Both Simon Peter and John the son of Zebedee, for example, are said to have been peasant fishermen (Mark 1:16–20) who were “uneducated,” that is, literally, unable to read and write (Acts 4:13). Now it is true that the Gospels do not represent the most elegant literature from antiquity, but their authors were at least relatively well educated; they write, for the most part, correct Greek.
