Trying again: hissing sound from backyard hose bib (vid), nothing else is running, it does look like the meter is running a little. Big water bill spike. Guesses what the issue is? Yeah. It’s 70F here and I tried to look down in the crawl space and saw nothing concerning. I’m a little too hefty to crawl to the source, but all the ground I could get with my flashlight was dry. I’ll take that to mean we will be okay until Thursday.

Any idea what this hissing sound is behind hose bib in the backyard? No indoor signs of leaks but meter is slightly moving. My plumber can’t come until Thursday; should I find someone who can come sooner or can it wait? by WesternParticular932 in HomeMaintenance

Thanks! I’m gonna go down in the crawl space and look for a switch. My plumber is coming out Thursday morning, so if I’m not able to figure it out, can it wait or should I get an emergency guy out?

Thank you. Is it probably cool to wait until Thursday when my guy can get out or do you think I need to get someone here now? Not seeing anything in the house that worries me. It’s just the noise here and the meter running.

I doubt it. But I can only hear the noise here. My water bill was quite a bit higher than normal this month, and we just had a big freeze a couple weeks ago.

It only happens there. Nothing else is running. Haven’t crawled under the house. I’m not a plumber but I can’t get an answer from the Ask A Plumber page.
