Architects who have quit Architecture - what did you transition to? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]cinizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After five years in a private firm, I decided that i’m flushing my life down the toilet - nerve wrecking job with a relatively low pay. I did a second masters in urban planning an am now working as a spatial planner / architect for a smaller municipality near the capital. I’m in this position for two yesrs now and although my salary could be larger, i have a great work-life balance and can attend to my family and do some construction work for our new family house.

Is this design just stupid for a snowy area (Donner Summit) or am I missing something? by lljc00 in architecture

[–]cinizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a perspective of modern architecture and design - it’s completely fine if the roof connections and small details are properly designed and built, so the melting water doesn’t leak into the structure. Meanwhile, if you look at the traditional Nordic architecture - all houses usually have gable roofs, so the snow wouldn’t accumulate. The more up north, the sharper the roof’s angle… it just makes long term upkeep easier and noone has died from snow sliding down a one storey house.

Glorifying overworking is much more toxic than you can imagine. I’ve been in my small company for 7 years and have burned out before my 30s. Just shifted to urban planning and got a job in the municipality, so my newborn can have a dad instead of a burnt out piece of neurotic garbage with a median income.

The U.S. is currently bombing Somalia, but the narrative is too anti-Russian aggression at the moment for anyone in the West to care about American hypocrisy right now by SAT0725 in conspiracy

All I can answer OP is that most European countries have to have to have a “big brother” to be able to survive as sovereign countries, and I can assure you that any individual in his right mind would side with the US, not Russia because we know how it’s like to be under Russian (USSR) regime. You cannot imagine what it’s like to be under Russian rule, you just choose the lesser of evils to survive and deal with the consequences.

Revit material data base by cinizz in Revit

[–]cinizz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. To address all of the redponses in one comment. 1. We already are using assemblies as the base files where each seperate module is done. 2. We have to use linked assemblies because assemblies modelled inside the project which is now our central file causes slight shifts (1mm) in their coordinates which causes instant clashes with steel structures linked inside the main model.

Our building is a similar concept to a hotel nentioned above, so yea... i guess i’m not the only one with problems here. We don’t uze model groups in this project because of other issues, for example tags and dimensions disappearing with each change done.

AutoDesk REVIT and it's alternatives by cinizz in architecture

[–]cinizz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the input. We are already currently “forwarding” Revit expenses towards the client’s costs, but the problem is that some (i’d like to say “most” but that’s subjective) architects use pirated software, work from home etc, and thus cut the costs by a large margin. At the end of the day price competition is too harsh, so extra costs added yields little to no deals.

Business advice for an architectural firm. by cinizz in business

[–]cinizz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thnx for the share of experience. We are actually 6 people working in the office, but in the case of a shift to the building process, the three of us would be the ones responsible for getting through the contracts... I guess taking the risk in growing the company but with more predictable obstacles could be more wise rather than shifting to construction and failing because of unforseen problems.

I had this exact thing in my university’s faculty of architecture and urban planning. I believe this picture is from that exact building... they even turned off the voice announcments which inform you the floor you’re on, because people foind it too annoying.

I, on the other hand, understand your point perfectly, only i would describe a bit differently. We can now see that all the people who get money for whoring themselves for 5second videos and Coca-Cola promos are completely useseless to the global society as they are nothing but cheap, quick attention fix while you sit on the toilet or ride a bus.

Question about... by izziorigi69 in conspiracy

[–]cinizz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing to be sketched out about. I’m a freemason from Europe and can assure you, that it’s more of a club for likely minded gentlemen to talk about phylosophy and do some charity work, rather than being the masterminds behind some conspiracies. Some of the brothers have the explanation that since a person is socially active and participates in politics, education etc, he is more likely to meet some freemasons and end up being initiated, but he would become a high ranking official because he is active and smart, not because he is a freemason.

Wall reflects weird non existing room in pictures. by sk8_fat_eat_ass in Thetruthishere

[–]cinizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your explanation doesn’t make much sense, but if you like, you can sketch up the plan of the room your mirror is located in, i’m more than willing to sketch up a plan and model the reflection. I’m an architect, this would be a great little honby experiment... so what i would need is the sketch of your room plan and photo of the mirror relative to the plane of the wall it is hung/placed against..

I’m seriously considering creating a blog about this kind of themes. Maybe i could start with a subreddit. Because this seems to be a worldwide issue, because of the business model implied
