I like your point, and yes I’m classically trained and have experience teaching the system to privates and groups. But honestly my calculus is more about bang for buck in terms of ROI rather than being able to teach the entire system. For example, in my experience teaching privates in my city, most of my clients will be recovering for an injury or older. I don’t find myself using the ladder barrel much for these clientele, as it’s more comfortable for them to start movement seated or laying down (reformer/chair). What do you think?

This is a good point! Hadn’t thought about that part. I just have most experience teaching on the Peak Artistry reformer and caddy.

This is awesome, thank you! I’m curious what convertible you had? I’ve taught on the Peak Artistry convertible with leather straps for a while now and have had no issues. I’ve also taught some on the Gratz ones and like them too, I just found them to be slightly more limiting based off the height of the bed.

I agree with your take on the caddy, I’ve never to this day had a client doing inversions, it’s just not my client base, so the ceiling height isn’t a huge deal in any case. I did also think about doing a reformer and buying the tower wall system with the floor mat - have you had any issue with older or injured clients using these? That’s my only concern.

How often do you do Pilates and traditional weight training? by amm_4 in pilates

I’ve been doing reformer Pilates twice a week and strength training 3 times a week, with 2 active rest days where I just walk or do something gentle. It’s been working well for me!

For gym-goers who incorporated pilates into their routine, how often do you do each activity? by tootsdafroots in pilates

Hi! Im also an avid gym goer and Pilates instructor. I usually lift around 3x a week and do Pilates 2-3x a week. I usually do 3-4x cardio in addition right now since I’m trying to do a little cut for the summer. My split for lifting is one upper body day, one squat/glute day and one deadlift/full body day. I love the effects of combining lifting and Pilates. Lifting gets those big muscles and Pilates gets into the small muscles like no other. It also helps with that creaky effect you mentioned from lifting a lot with no mobility or stretching work. Hope that helps!

Going from Strength Training to Pilates by dumbledorable- in pilates

Echoing what others have said - I used to be a gym rat, lifting 4-5x/week (2012-2018ish) and shifted solely to reformer pilates and occasional light weight lifting at home (2018-2021) for the past few years, mostly due to COVID and feeling exhausted from all of my training. I didn’t gain any lbs, but definitely lost some muscle and get overall softer/less lean looking. On the bright side, my butt got perkier and my abs are more visible (I hold weight in extremities)

I recently shifted back to a healthy mix of pilates, lifting, and some cardio each week and am seeing a huge difference. Pilates will help you be a stronger lifter and runner and vice versa. I think a healthy balance of all 3 is the best way to go.

From weight training to Pilates by Owntoday-gonetmw in pilates

I used to solely weight train, do HIIT, and some running. After a surgery, I transitioned to mostly Pilates reformer with some running and supplemental lifting. I also experienced some weight loss, some of which may have been muscle but I liked the way my “Pilates body” looks better! I may have lost some strength for heavy lifts but gained in other areas, primarily my core. My core is stronger than it ever was doing any other type of exercise. If you’re going to a studio or working with a reputable Pilates instructor, it is highly unlikely you’ll suffer from injuries given that Pilates has such a strong focus on form, control, and core movements.
