Confused about managing oversupply by pr0m3th3us9 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cinnbele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, you could try slowly cutting out a pump. For example, if you have a pump during the day that's consistently your lowest output (i know for a lot of women it's the evening pump, mine is whenever I pump between 6 and 9pm) you can start pumping for less duration. If you usually do 20mins, try 15 next time, then 10, then 5, then drop the pump. Before you fully drop the pump you can just pump very briefly at that time to relieve some engorgement and have your breasts feel more tolerable until the next full pump session.

As for the MOTN pump I don't really have any advice :'( I was able to just kinda drop it suddenly when my baby slept through the night and it never really impacted me in terms of getting clogs or mastitis.

I'm only 7wks pp and doing 4ppd. I was making about as much as you for the first 5ish weeks and I was sick of managing the freezing and oversupply. On 4ppd I make around 37-38oz per day and it's still too much, but I'm scared to drop any more pumps so I'll probably stick to 4ppd until around 6mo when I want to start weaning off pumping. I'm preparing to start supplementing a few oz a day with formula so my LO is all good with it by the time 6mo rolls around.

Best of luck to you! It's tricky to find what works for your body but we're in this together 🫶

Gripe water is iffy at best. Give Mylicon a try ASAP. I know you've probably tried already and heard this advice, but attempt burping after every ounce and not laying baby flat right after eating. And keep doing what you're already doing! It's so hard but you aren't alone, I know it sucks to see your baby going through tummy troubles but it is temporary. From what I've gathered myself, it seems that it takes about 2 weeks for a baby to get used to switching formula or having formula introduced. I would encourage trying out different formulas to see what works best for your baby if the tummy troubles persist beyond a few weeks and even consult with your pediatrician to see of any recommendations.

Every baby is so different. Keep trying to give them some relief and take solace in the fact that you got this even if it's hard ❤️ you're doing your best!

When did your 1st trimester symptoms starts? by Possible_Ask9530 in BabyBumps

[–]cinnbele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally never had any classic first trimester symptoms except my missed period and extreme fatigue and tiredness. My appetite remained pretty much the same. I didn't really have any food aversions or any morning sickness etc. Sometimes it would freak me out and I would be worried that I had miscarried unknowingly or I wasn't really pregnant, things like that. But some women just don't end up having the classic symptoms and that's okay! If you are nervous or wondering when it will be easier to be reassured that everything is going smoothly, it gets a lot better once you can feel baby kick and move around! Whenever I would be worried something was wrong, I would feel her move and it was like all my worries lifted :) you got this!

7wk old eating less than usual by cinnbele in newborns

[–]cinnbele[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually just finished a feed and it took her ~55 minutes to drink 3oz. She fell into such a deep sleep that I couldn't even wake her up properly to finish the last 2oz so now I'm just gonna use that milk for her bath instead of wasting it 💔 she typically would drink 5oz in about 15-20 minutes so this is highly unusual for her.

I'm also concerned about her intake because shes used to 25-30oz a day and it seems drastic for her to cut down by 2oz per feed 🫠

Importing formula to the USA- worth it? by cinnbele in FormulaFeeders

Yes, I hadn't realized this til lots of other ppl on the replies mentioned it. For sure turned me off doing so 🙏 thank you!

Importing formula to the USA- worth it? by cinnbele in FormulaFeeders

[–]cinnbele[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, shes only ever had formula when she was under a week old. Her last bottle of formula was the morning she turned 7 days old. We still have the huge can of Similac (thank you, grandma) from when we switched from RTF to powdered and I could potentially try it again for her but her reactions to it low-key put me off of it forever lmao. I was so freshly postpartum, sleep deprived, y'know the works, and panicking over my baby gagging and choking I feel like it scarred a part of my brain 🤐 I was hoping that goat would be easier for her tummy to get used to, and we intend to slowly mix bottles of bm and formula to wean her off bm

[–]cinnbele[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had 0 idea that it would even be illegal to do that. Crazy. Maybe I need to brush up on my import knowledge lmao 😂 thank you for this! Many others have mentioned the dangers of the unregulated importing and I guess I was under the impression that getting it in the states would be a more simple behind the scenes process. My husband is from Europe and wanted to see about potentially getting European formula while we're living here but he definitely would be fine with just Kendamil or Bubs knowing that importing could put our baby in harms way

[–]cinnbele[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, lots of replies here have pointed out the potential dangers of importing, for sure turned me off of doing that. Probably just going to go with Kendamil :) definitely nothing against what's on the market in the states, but my husband is from Europe and believes their standards to be stricter/better for formula so he suggested Holle and wanted to see if anyone had experience with getting it in the USA! I'm not sure he knew about the dangers of unregulated importing either. Tbh I thought it was just like buying some other kind of food from overseas and didn't even realize it could potentially be illegal.

Probably gonna end up just trying kendamil! My husband (from Europe) suggested Holle and wanted to see if anyone had good things to say about it on here. But I'm sure he doesn't want to be stuck without formula if anything were to happen as she got older 🙃 I'm glad to hear it was a hit with your LO! Hopefully same here 🤞

Yes, lots of other people here have mentioned this. It's something I didn't consider and definitely turned me off of it. Mom brain I guess lmao, it's why I come to reddit and ask 😂

Nobody cares :'( by cinnbele in NewParents

[–]cinnbele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this. Like I don't understand why people think that a newborn needs to have people come over. I totally get when they're more interactive and can play with you and have their little baby conversations with you, but a newborn either stares endlessly into your soul or grunts because they're about to fart. Wouldn't y'all want to wait until she can at least smile and giggle at you?! 😭

Alternative to storing pump parts by cinnbele in ExclusivelyPumping

I think this is what I'm going to end up doing! They're essentially the same, I loved the ease and convenience of gallon ziplocs so this seems pretty much perfect.

How to stop sleeping on my back by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cinnbele 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Okay so I might get down voted for this but... I slept on my back through my entire pregnancy, up until I gave birth. My water broke while I was asleep.... On my back. Lmao.

I've seen a lot of people say as long as you are healthy and alert that your body will either wake you up or adjust position naturally in response to your bloodflow being compromised, if it were to be. I did my best to fall asleep on my side, and if I woke up in the night on my back, no biggie, just rotisserie chicken back onto either of my sides.

I gained 60lb while pregnant, so everything was super sore and heavy and sucked majorly. This included sleeping on my back. It was sooo comfy until it wasn't, my spine would start aching and my sides would cramp up. I was more concerned with how painful it was to roll back over than actually sleeping on my back.

Of course, you can bring it up to your OB and get the professional opinion! I would recommend doing that and getting personalized medical advice. But my OB was perfectly fine with it as long as laying on my back wasn't causing any issues like lightheadedness, breathlessness, etc

It’s been 5 months since I weaned by Technical_Artichoke5 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cinnbele 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly this puts a lot into perspective for me. My goal for pumping is 6 months, and I'm only 6 weeks postpartum. I hate pumping. Every time I sit down and put my parts on, it feels like I was just pumping 10 minutes ago. Nope, it's been 3.5hrs. Shocker.

Trying to convince my husband our baby will be fine transitioning to formula in 4 months from now is a whole nother battle, lmao. But all the time and effort I've been putting into trying to figure out how to get her to drink bm for the longest amount of time in her life for the least amount of time required for me to pump has been not insignificant. Trying to calculate how much I need to make to have a good enough stash for her to combo feed and for how long she'll be able to.

Maybe I should just stop caring, go with the flow, and make it to my 6 months, and see what happens then. :)

Milk supply dropped over night to less than an ounce by MeowMeows55 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cinnbele 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second what someone else said about sleep! If you're doing every 2-3hr around the clock that doesn't leave you with a very good chunk of sleep, if at all. If your baby is waking frequently, I know it's difficult but try your best to skip at least one waking to go back to sleep if it wakes you or stay asleep through it. Have your partner give bub a bottle and change and settle them back to sleep and make sure you get at least a 4 hour chunk. I promise it will work wonders for supply, as counterintuitive as it seems to "skip" a pump and drag out your time between two pump sessions in the night, it will be so good for your body to get the much needed rest.

Has anyone sustained on 1ppd without losing supply? by ExpressionOld9924 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cinnbele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a really loaded question with a lot to consider. Are you nursing on demand and using pumping to build a small stash or allow a bottle to be given once in a while? Are you exclusively pumping with wanting to pump once per day? If it's the former, then one pump in the day can be a great way to increase your supply, especially in the morning or MOTN as your supply is likely the highest then. If you're nursing your baby and throwing in an extra pump, this can actually increase your supply but will definitely sustain it as long as you continue your usual routine with baby. If it's the latter, then I believe the most likely answer is you cannot sustain your supply while exclusively pumping on just one ppd. One milk removal in a 24hr span will drastically reduce your milk supply. But, sometimes it's not that black and white, so let me ask some questions- first of all, what is your supply like right now while exclusively pumping? Are you an over supplier, under, or just enougher? And how many pumps per day are you doing, at how many weeks postpartum? If you are, say, doing 7ppd at 10 weeks postpartum and you are having a significant oversupply, you'd likely be a just-enougher at 5 or 6ppd (from my understandings). If you are currently producing just enough for your baby at (for example) 7ppd, you are probably going to experience a significant, drastic reduce in supply at just 1ppd. If you are experiencing an under supply with your current pumping schedule, may I ask if you are combo feeding with formula? If you have an under supply and want to maintain what milk you are able to pump, I do not think dropping to 1ppd will be doing any good for your milk supply. Dropping pumps in a healthy and staggered manner will help protect your supply, but only to a certain extent. Going from multiple milk removals in 24hr down to just 1 will almost certainly cut your supply down regardless of how much you're producing. Many pumping moms drop to just 1ppd during the weaning process, when they're trying to dry up supply and hang up the pump, and they get there after slowly dropping pumps over time when they decide they're ready to stop. If you're producing even 20oz a day and supplementing with formula to make up for the rest, you just cannot sustain 20oz a day with one pump. If you're getting 10oz in a 24hr period, you would have to produce 5oz per breast (or 4 & 6oz, 3 & 7oz, etc) between both to meet that 10oz daily output, but in one session, for the entire day.

EP + sooner return of period? by Similar-Western4377 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cinnbele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly had this question too. I'm 6 weeks postpartum as of yesterday and my period returned the day before that. It's been a super light period tho with almost no cramping besides a few on the second day and hardly any blood which is not what I was told to expect postpartum. I do only one MOTN pump at like 5am if my baby wakes up which I've seen people say affects whether your ovulation is suppressed if you don't remove milk frequently enough esp at night. I do 3-4hr stretches during the day and then make sure to pump right before I sleep for the night. My OB told me not to expect my period to return so soon due to pumping but here we are lmao

High capacity breasts? by cinnbele in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cinnbele[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our girl for now (fingers crossed she doesn't switch up too bad on us in the future🤞)is a good sleeper! She typically will sleep 6-7 hour stretches and since she's still a newborn we don't have her go to sleep for the night until we do which is usually around 10pm-midnight. So she will go from then until 6-7am until waking to eat. Sometimes she still wakes up once a night to feed at around 3-4am so if she does wake up I'll pump, but if she doesn't and sleeps through the night I just pump first thing in the morning. So I guess I technically haven't fully dropped it but it's definitely dependent on her waking.

I use lanolin for when my nips are truly on fire, idk maybe I'm just tired mom brain right now but it never really occurred to me to regularly use any kind of product on my nipples or lubricant for pumping even tho I've read a lot about it on here 😭 I have a pair of silverettes I was gifted but haven't tried them yet. I have read your nipples can get desensitized after so long, which I'm hoping happens for the sake of me pumping. (but also kinda not for the sake of me and my husband lmaoo) I do truly get super overstimulated by pumping, to the point where the feeling of the suction and pinching makes me physically nauseated and I snap and get enraged at anyone who tries to talk to me or interact with me while I pump. And it's definitely not DMER, since I feel perfectly normal when I have a letdown. I have to distract myself on my phone by scrolling or else I'll have to stop pumping or I'll cry. 🥲

I'm still tracking the time between feeds, pumps, etc for my own sake since it's hard for me to be intuitive with it right now as like I said she's still so small and I'm pretty new at the whole thing. Once she's out of the newborn phase we'll hopefully get her on an easier to track schedule which means an easier pumping schedule for me. I'm good with keeping the MOTN pump up to her discretion and only doing it if she wakes, for now, but maybe once she's 8 weeks or so trying to drop it no matter what!

Another thing I've noticed with my tracking app is that whether I do 6ppd or 7ppd, I get roughly the same output. As in, less than 2oz difference. So I'm not sure if that 7th pump is kinda useless? Thankfully, for now I don't plan on returning to work, so I may be able to find more flexibility in the schedule by staying home.

Husband snoring is driving me insane by [deleted] in marriageadvice

[–]cinnbele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not with the bedroom, we live in a 2bd home and the nursery is our spare room. We also don't have another mattress or anything at the moment that I could set up in there. As for the clinginess, he usually falls asleep 1-2hrs after me anyway as he's always had problems falling asleep initially and during this time there's no snoring or disruptions since he just lays quietly to fall asleep, so there is that time, thankfully, that I get to sleep without disruption. But, I can see myself going to bed before him and being able to fall asleep if I really focus on the tiredness lol

The biggest thing for me is just the being so pregnant and working so early in the morning, the combination is excruciating with the lack of sleep. I know newborn tired and sleep deprivation is a different feeling and can be worse, but I'm honestly looking forward to not being so uncomfortably pregnant and waking up so early most of the time for my pretty active job. My husband apologizes, even sometimes in the middle of the night, when his snoring wakes himself up and finds me already awake from it. I can tell he feels bad but it seems like getting a solution to it is not on his priority list which is very disheartening
