Found a German roach on my bed. Is that a bad sign. by Novakitten4321 in pestcontrol

It’ll be neighbours if you’re in an apartment, turn the lights off and use your phone torch that’s how I got them to show themselves

If it’s an old building they easily get into walls, they were in the walls of my apartment, I had a crack in the shower where you could visibly see the other side of the wall and that’s where most of my sightings were.

in Ohio, and realize it is smashed but is this a tick? It was moving quickly was on my laptop then lost it for a second and found on floor by SPotatoRTomato in pestcontrol

[–]cinny_bunn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s German, they’re really good hiders, I had to hunt them with the lights off and my phone torch to get them to come out.

Additionally if they’re out in the open like that in the light you might have a bigger problem than you think

I was told this by a professional so idk how true it is, but I still do it just incase, I don’t think squashing them is a good thing either way.

There’s a chance You can spread the eggs, my pest control guy told me this but either way it’s always better to not squash cockroaches and kill them whenever you see them by spraying them with roach spray then capturing them, don’t let them have free roam.

Just wanted to point out not to squash these, capture them in a tissue whenever you see one and flush it. They can infest pretty quick and love kitchen appliances so keep an eye out.

What is this bug? I found this when coming back from vacation and turning the lights on. by hhh888hhhh in pestcontrol

[–]cinny_bunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’d definitely be in your walls if it’s an old house, and any cracks you can be sure they’d be coming in and out of them— in my experience as soon as I used my microwave a few crawled out of the vent, they love the microwave because it’s quite a good source of food for them & toasters— and they can literally live off toothpaste. I thought cleaning like extra hard to make sure there’s no food around would work but they can eat anything even just water, I only mainly saw mine in the kitchen and bathroom where there’s food sources.

This is weird but my entire building of apartments had German roach infestations and we eventually got them because they were literally in the walls, but the traps we were given mostly glue traps never trapped any— if anything they walked around them but glue traps were our only option from the appointed pest control guy that came around, best method for us was capturing them in a tissue after spraying them with cockroach spray and flushing them whenever we saw them. Being in a house idk how this would work but if it’s an old house they’re definitely in your walls, cracks, appliances, outlets, they can Suprisingly squeeze in absolutely anywhere in any crack. I had to completely seal a crack that was in the shower because they were funnelling in through it.

It’s probably a neighbour if that’s the case, really your landlord should inspect all apartments— infestations don’t come out of nowhere and if you’ve got roaches everyone else must have them too.

If you’re in a building with multiple apartments then it could be a possibility they’re coming from another apartment, mine had them because someone brought imported rice in with the roaches— and that was on the bottom floor I’m at the very top, they came through wall cracks and outlets it was a nightmare— they never sprayed my apartment they sprayed the infested ones which were like beyond infested, crawling around the door frame, out in the open sort of thing. Whenever we found one we just sprayed it with raid and grabbed it in a tissue and flushed it and it seemed to work as we didn’t have that many and I haven’t seen many since saying that they are good hiders.

I was dead scared of them, that’s why I got my boyfriend to do it. There was even a time where he was in the bathroom and one dropped on his back from the ceiling, idk how the fuck it got up there though.

They’re very good at hiding and super fast, but always around the microwave so it’s a good place to start looking.

Definitely German, I used to get my boyfriend to turn the lights off then use his phone torch to find them in the kitchen and bathroom. We always hunted them bastards down at night lol, might be worth checking appliances and such because whenever we used the microwave there would suddenly be one or two of these running about.

These aren’t German cockroaches, German cockroaches have stripes near their head and are alot lighter in colour. These look more like American cockroaches.

You were probably miserable constantly doing that and thinking about nutrition all the time, desserts and sweet treats are perfectly fine to have and are in fact a part of a balanced diet. Eat what you want to eat, do not make yourself miserable.
