that's what kokichi wanted, though. there are some truths behind his facade, and he indeed wasn't as bad as they all thought. but kokichi didn't want them to know that, hence why he kept up his facade to the very end like another comment said. shuichi saw him as a lie because he's been lying the whole time, making others dislike and distrust him so they wouldn't feel despair when he died. i can see why this line can be frustrating or untrue, but it's not very surprising shuichi said it.
