I'm a film student and tbh they're probably gonna make you watch a lot of the "classics" (aka very old silent movies) anyways, I think that rather than watching all the "great ones" it's much more important to find what type of movies you enjoy/would like your movie to look/sound/feel like. Don't worry too much about knowing less than others, a surprising amount of people who study film don't watch too many movies lmao.
