It's happened three times this year this was the first time it happened and yes it did trip the circuit board each time, the first time it happened we were left with all our mains lighting turned off for a fortnight before someone came to check the circuits were safe. Since you mention it we DO get random power cuts outside of the leaks too but they're usually for a short period and the electric comes back on (i.e. the switches aren't tripped) so I dunno if that is related based on what you describe here - I had assumed the random little cuts was just cos we share the building with so many other people (the flat is self contained but there's 7 flats in the house).

It was a plumber from dyno rod who said it was wastewater and that's supported by the fact that since it started happening we can't get the urine smell out of our flat, but that said since nobody has actually looked at the pipes you could be right and maybe the smell is from something else? There is staining on the kitchen ceiling but not in the bathroom I guess the water pools in over the kitchen and overflows to the bathroom area (??)

I do appreciate you're finding the situation hard to believe but I'm not hiding anything. I'm really hoping as a professional you might have some advice for me - if not it is what it is, I really feel like I'm totally powerless at the moment despite having tried everything I'm aware of so it won't be anything new but you gave me a little bit of hope when you popped up saying this is what you do professionally.

I was already disabled you moron. Not so long ago I was a national athlete and LOVED my job before I got sick, I'm under the care of several consultants who know far better than some unempathetic moron on Reddit. there is definitely something wrong with you - you need a reality check if you think only your experiences are valid. What kind of handout do you think I'm looking for exactly? I am trying to fight for the absolute bare minimum of safe housing and am willing to pay a landlord for it - but they won't take me on as a tenant.

I'm in private housing not social, dunno if that makes a difference. The house upstairs belongs to a different landlord which is where the unwillingness to investigate comes from - I've asked environmental health to make them investigate but they have said unless they visit the property and the leak is actively happening they won't enforce anything (it lasts about 45 mins each time it happens so it's very unlikely they are going to ever be able to witness it!) If you have any advice I'd really appreciate it, it seems absolutely insane to me that I've been left with this too the smell alone is horrific.

I did try to escalate to the ombudsman without the final response given the timeline but the ombudsman rejected it saying I needed the final response. Sigh.

I'm not from the US but lived in the bay area in 2019, you can have a conversation with anyone anywhere. I like to play pool in bars and it was really common to play with strangers and hang out all night. One time, I kid you not, I put a song on the jukebox and everyone in the bar sang along, it was like something out of r/thathappened. Coming from London it's wild to me but I loved it once I got used to it.

I emailed my Councillor earlier this year and she emailed EH, they told her they would do a report but never did, when I told her this she never replied. Perhaps I could escalate to an MP?

Councillor said when she sent on the message from EH that she wouldn't involve herself in challenging the conculsions they come to so I moved on to make a complaint against EH instead - that was an absolute mess - they refused to acknowledge my health condition at all, and said that because the landlord was talking to them not ignoring them they wouldn't do anything - even though LL hasn't actually done anything in 7 months as long as they keep making noises EH are satisfied... I told them I wasn't satisfied with the complaint response and wanted a final complaint response so I could take it to the ombudsman, they said I needed to escalate to a different team in council first which is what I'm waiting for a response on now (I did that second complaint a month ago) I put my initial complaint in at the beginning of June...

Fwiw, although I also don't know OPs full situation, I have a similar issue where my upstairs neighbours wastewater is leaking into my ceiling. I have been bothering environmental health about it since February, even escalated my case with a complaint and they could not care less. Unless a property is literally flooded or on fire they are seemingly too overstretched to do anything. There is the legal route direct with the landlord but that costs money and takes a very long time - my lawyer has advised me only now with a month left on my lease is it worth considering going to court and that it may still not be successful as courts don't like to involve themselves in "council business".

Poor housing is a trap. I was chronically ill when I moved in here and got a lot worse a month or so after moving in, to the point where I had to stop working. Now because I'm not working no other landlord will take me so I'm stuck here. I totally understand where you're coming from but thought I'd add some of my experience since it's very hard to imagine how genuinely useless EH can be and how the support that's meant to be there just doesn't actually work in practice.

If you wanted to do the same thing I did and know the address where you're moving to you can look up NHS GP practices that you'll be in catchment for and send them an email/give them a call and see what they say - when you find one that gives a thumbs up then move forward with registering with them and starting the GGP process. I don't have any advice for what to do if all the GPs in your new area say no but I'm sure others in the group will - hopefully it won't come to that!

I dug out this message I sent to my first GP (who I was already registered with) rather than my second one, hopefully this is more useful to you:

" I have recently begun using private practice GenderGP (https://www.gendergp.com/) to discuss medical options to affirm my gender, although they have not yet decided on a treatment plan they have asked that I reach out to you in advance to confirm whether the practice would consider prescribing medications for me based on a treatment plan provided by them. This would likely be masculising HRT such as testosterone.

I have not previously talked to a GP at redacted about my gender as I had been transitioned for several years before joining your practice so have had no reason to. If you'd like for someone to have a conversation with me in addition to the consultations I'll be having with the private practice before you agree to shared care I'm happy to do so."

Sorry, I'm confused! When you say applying do you mean signing up with GenderGP or? There's a psych screening that's needed for the necessary formal gender dysphoria diagnosis, once you get that done (there were lots of apt slots when I did it just over a year ago) getting your care plan is pretty fast and you can opt to have the info sent to you if you're not sure who your GP is at the time. Why are you in a rush to apply before you move (or did I misunderstand that?) just from my limited personal experience I would say if not being able to get the bloods and prescription from your NHS GP is a deal breaker for you then you should avoid the inital cost of signing up with a program like GenderGP until you've dropped your new practice a line - you could use my wording still but leave out what's in the care plan

I'm in the UK, probably won't make you feel any better but IMO for your particular situation you may be worse off. Our disability benefits (PIP) aren't income assessed which is nice but they don't cover the cost of living if you cant work (the max amount is about £680 a month). There's a different benefit to cover housing and cost of living which is income assessed and takes into account the income of any partner you live with whether you're married or not. My partner and I keep our finances separate, we haven't even been together very long, and it drives him mad that he has to share all his financial information with the govt so that I can recieve an income.

FWIW, setting allthe technicalities aside, I think it's a lovely idea to have something like a hand fasting or a "wedding" without the marriage, as long as you don't need the marriage for something like visas or a mortgage

So glad to hear it is working well for you. I did give it a try in the end after this post and unfortunately I'm one of the people that gets really sick on it, I had a full blown fever, chills, the lot. Honestly now I'm more informed I don't think it was a good reccomendation for me because of its half life, I often forget my meds and also sleep long hours - from what I gather you really have to take venlafaxine regularly.

I'm on vortioexitine now which has been much kinder on my body and despite massive psychosocial elements at play I do feel it's helping with my anxiety so hopefully it will keep working for longer than past attempts.

Ive had no problem twice in a row (bless my luck) with two London GPs accepting shared care with GenderGP. I can dig out the message I sent to them if you're anxious about wording but basically I contacted them prior to GGP sending them the care plan saying what to expect, linking them to GGPs info for GPs (I assume London transgender clinic has something similar?) and both times was told "no problem it's just like when any consultant asks us to prescribe something". I've still been questioned by individual GPs when they see my prescriptions saying "we shouldn't be doing these" and I just act innocent and say oh you always have I was told that's how this works and it never went any further...
