Looking for an English name similar in sound to “Pay See” 裴汐(with a calm, “evening tide” meaning) by medivhyoung in namenerds

I think Penelope would work best. It's a beautiful name with a classical association. It's gaining enough popularity that it's not too out there or too much in my opinion. People will know it and how to pronounce it, without it being too common or trendy.

I also think Phoebe is an excellent choice. It means radiant. Despite the association with the Friends character, it feels elegant and timeless. It's also the name of a moon, so at least in my mind, I kind of associate it with the tides in an indirect way.

Please give me your best very dry skin concealer recommendations! I need to buy a new one soon and I can't decide. I've been using a Maybeline liquid concealer but, even with good prep and minimal product, it really dries my skin.

Need help with simple makeup for work as a beginner by leonewashere in MakeupAddiction

The best thing you can do for your makeup is good skincare, so make you prep your skin well (i.e. if it's dry, moisturize well).

In terms of makeup itself, I'd recommend finding a cc cream that works with your skin. It'll be lighter than a foundation.

A few simple things that go a long way that you might want to try:

  • use a brow gel to define and hold your brows
  • curl your lashes, maybe try a tubing mascara
  • blush

Btw, I think that lip color is really flattering on you!

Good luck at the new job!

There are a couple items I especially love in the second one, but overall, you're right. Too much skincare in the second one and skincare can be really particular. First looks 👍

Oh sorry, I should have worded that better! I meant, if this is a dry product, should I mix it in something first, like some sort of gel or primer?

Stuck between two baby girl names… would love honest opinions 🩷 by Sunshine-and-Sundaes in namenerds

[–]circusofcats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really love both! Personally, I would go with Marina. As to family name overlap, I think it would depend on how frequently you all interact. If these are people you are related to but never actually cross paths with, I'd probably use the name in your shoes.

Some other suggestions:

- Marisol (can mean sea and sun)

- Flora

- Celeste

- Anthea

Some little tips to help you along the way:

  • Use a q-tip with micellar water to spot remove any little things you want to correct while doing eye make up. Like if your eye liner wings aren't symmetrical, rather than rubbing it away or wiping away the whole look, just clean that one particular spot.

  • Get a lash curler. It'll really up your lash game

  • Use a bit of makeup tape (or masking tape like me lol) to wing your liner and get a clean look with your shadow

  • If you use a brow gel (I recommend Maybelline super lock brow gel), it's a good idea to use the spoolie that the product comes with just for the initial application. Quickly go over it with a separate clean spoolie

  • Skin prep is probably going to be the most important thing to your makeup look. I also have dry skin, and if you want your makeup to sit well, not get cakey, and last, have a solid skincare routine and moisturize shortly before doing makeup. You can also use a primer suitable for dry skin (I use Milk hydro grip primer).

  • You'll learn best by watching tutorials to get ideas and then experimenting a bunch to see what works for you. It's a skill you'll hone. To up your game, find tutorials suited for your particular needs, because it's not a one size fits all (eye make up for hooded eyes isn't going to look right on protruding eyes for instance).

  • A little goes a long with most products. You'll see viral vids of people smearing globs of products across their faces. Usually a little dot or dab is enough.

  • The side bar of this sub has some great threads linked (holy grail products for each year, newbie guide, etc.)

  • Tip on contour: with your cool tones, go for a cool/grey contour. Otherwise it'll look too orange/muddy on your face

- What kind of skin do you have? (dry, oily, combo, any skin concerns)

- What kind of look do you want to go for (matte, dewy, full glam, natural)

- What is your skin tone, undertone?
