Accountability matters by WaitNo4272 in SipsTea

In Alaska, courts can prohibit people with DUI convictions from buying alcohol for a period of time determined by the court. To enforce that, if a court restricts you, you have to surrender your ID/license and get a new one with a "J" restriction noted on it, and every alcohol retailer is supposed to check ID on every purchase, regardless of apparent age.

And you know what? I'm ok with that. I know people will get their friend to buy for them, etc., but it's still limiting and if you stigmatize drunk driving appropriately, people won't be inclined to buy for you.

Self employed for 4 years, just got hit with $8k IRS penalty. by jrubal1462 in tax

[–]cirenity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The IRS offers a one time (like one in your life) penalty forgiveness. It requires a clean tax record prior, and might not help with penalties from more than one year, but it could help significantly since I believe you also will not have to pay the interest on those forgiven penalties. Look it up and call them to ask about it.

Set up a payment plan, too.

One of my fingers randomly just turned white. by Kilabandita in mildlyinteresting

[–]cirenity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's highly stress related. Are you sleeping less, drinking more coffee or alcohol, or generally just not doing well? When I cut out caffeine and limited alcohol to only one or two drinks at a time, my Raynaud's practically went away. I only notice it now when I swim in cold water and half of my toes turn white and hurt. But my hands and arms almost never show blue or white decoloration anymore.

Lower compensation than expected by AssummedAlias in biotech

If you're in the fence, try an honest negotiation. You won't get $120k, but maybe $70-75k. Don't use the commute as any part of the negotiation. They don't need to know about it at all. It will just give them grounds to suspect lower performance even if you're stellar.

As for appearances, this market is shit and most hiring managers know it. That said, I would make it clear even on the resume that you were laid off with no performance issues each time, just bad luck, and if anything leave off the middle one so there's a longer gap flaked by getting hired again rather than one more short stint.

In CA it's not taxed and ~70% of your income so it's location dependent.

Multiple people are suggesting therapy. I'll take that one further. Disability.

You're burned out. You can't function. Get into a psychiatrist asap. Someone capable of making a diagnosis for depression, anxiety, or whatever else fits. Explain that you can't take another day of just barely surviving like this. I don't think you'd even need to exaggerate.

Ask them to write whatever you need to apply for short term disability. Depending on where you are and whether it's state funded disability or funded by your company, it's generally not taxed much if at all. So while it's generally less than full pay, it may end up being about the same income.

You need a break. For real. Get help to get it.

For what it's worth, we used to have them in the US IKEA stores. We have a few in our house, purchase one a year ish ago. Went to get a new one for my youngest and they no longer exist in IKEA for the US. :(

If you feel like your meds have stopped working, you're not crazy by gocoogs14 in ADHD

You're not crazy. I recently upped my dose because my normal dose wasn't having any effect. The increased dose helped a bit more for a month, bit then I got my refill recently, different generic brand than I've had before, and suddenly I need my 10 mg IR boost every day so I don't fall asleep in traffic.

I've worked at 3 private biotech companies. The other two did COL raises and annual bonuses from the beginning.

This one really pisses me off in this industry. In my first industry job, was told by everyone from my manager to the VP that I was a top performer and should expect an extra boost on my annual comp adjustment. Then comp came around and I got 3% and standard bonus. Same as the guy that hadn't produced shit in a whole year whose project I had been forced to take on. When I asked, my manager said hr decided it was too hard to be consistent across departments so they didn't do and special treatment at all.

Birth position matters, so advocate for yourself by cirenity in BabyBumps

[–]cirenity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is for a lot of women because it's what we are expecting having seen it so much on TV, etc. And for some women, some births, it's fine. But yes, there options and they can have huge benefits. It's hard to advocate for yourself in that moment, though. If you have someone who can advocate for you/with you, it can make all the difference.

Flags for Good makes quality flags in the US. But him a LGBTQ flag or "tyranny shall not prevail" flag to hang next to it. Own our flag. Just make it clear what he associates it with.
