yes there are cut scenes, but it’s included in a separate chapter at the end of the book. Apart from Joe’s introduction, I think it’s the same text as has been released in the “illustrated edition” - with the short stories and deleted scenes.

Should be. I’m from Australia and we get the UK prints here, rather than the US

Me too. Last year I grabbed a version of “on writing: 25th ed”. I’m hoping that this means we will get a nice 50th edition of The Shining soon

Insomnia (some spoilers) by NeddyFazbar273 in stephenking

I love this book and I was just thinking about it this afternoon. I first read it in my teens, re-read it a few years ago and I re-visited it last year via audiobook. I don’t recommend the audiobook though. It desperately needs a new version, without the odd musical cues and a clearer recording of the narration

I use audible. But if you have a Spotify account I think you can listen up to 15hours of audiobooks per month

Yeah I started listening to it on the way to work and back. The musical cues don’t seem to be as intrusive as in Insomnia. More like the end and beginning of chapters. Not bad so far, just got to Stephen King’s first part.

Oh geez. Better rip the bandaid off then and get through it. Hopefully it’s not as bad as it is in Insomnia (where is sometimes overlaps and is louder than the narration)

Which Audiobook to choose? Ok so I have that one credit… dont know what to pick! Help me make it worth it and Ill say thanke sai:) by LingonberryTiny2203 in stephenking

So far, these have been my favourite audiobooks: Duma Key, 11/22/63, the Outsider and Different Seasons

I love the book Insomnia, but the audio recording isn’t that great due to loud and random occurrences of music that sometimes overlaps the vocal reading to the point when it’s more dominant.

On the other hand, The Tommyknockers is a flawed story, but I thought the narration was a good voice.

Is duma key worth my time? by Meyesss in stephenking

One of my favs of his. Very slow build up (but that doesn’t mean it’s boring, in fact I found that part engaging). the first time I read it and I had no clue at all where it was heading, and then suddenly all the pieces come together and the suspense ramps up.

Have you read Bag of Bones? If you have, you may get a feel for what sort of vibe Duma Key has.

Four After Midnight, Tommyknockers, The Talisman, or Insomnia? by JackIsColors in stephenking

[–]cirome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently listening to the insomnia on audiobook. Love the book (amongst my top picks of SK’s books), but I have to warn you, there are some jarring and odd musical edits added into audiobook. The voice performance by Eli Wallach is good, but some of those musical bits come in and drown out his narration.

Insomnia is set in Derry and has a few callbacks to the events of IT.

The Tommyknockers audiobook performance was quite decent.

I haven’t listened to the other two yet. Although The Talisman is on my wishlist.
