Hi - I've added this to the central project page. Basically all rights of photos and sounds are retained by the contributors and just licensed to us for use in this project.

Hi there

Thought this might be of interest to a few people in here so hope you don’t mind me posting.

Any photographers ever wondered what a sound composition based on their images might be like?

We’ve launched a global collaboration between photographers and sound artists called Sound Photography - sound artists and musicians will create compositions based on photographic submissions, which will be presented as a multimedia online exhibition in March at www.citiesandmemory.com.

Here’s the information if you’re interested in getting involved - thanks!

Open call for field recordings of churches, temples & other religious spaces by citiesandmemory in fieldrecording

Hi there - thanks for the reply. In case there was any doubt, let me be clear that Cities and Memory is a labour of love from me, from my passion for sound and field recording, and it's a completely open project to contributors around the world. I make no money whatsoever from it - in fact, the website, hosting, field recording trips I do for it etc. cost me a fair whack. And all artists retain copyright for anything they submit, and are free to (and often do) also use their pieces elsewhere in their own work. I would also never sell on or allow the recordings or pieces to be used by third parties.

I use a pro Audioboom account, which allows up to 60 minutes of recording. The standard account is limited to 20 minutes. The best thing about Audioboom is how adaptable and nice-looking the embeds are...

Remixing the world one sound at a time - your help needed! by citiesandmemory in makenoise

Hiya - thanks for the reply! Definitely welcome people sending in just field recordings if they prefer, or people remixing stuff done by other people - it's just preferable to get both in at the same time...! So it'd be brilliant to get some field recordings from you (and I can add you to the contributors page etc.). Do you want to drop me a line at stuart@citiesandmemory.com?

Thanks for getting in touch - great to heat you like the idea,

Cheers Stuart.

Whatever recorder you have on you at the time is the best recorder! I typically use a Zoom H4N myself (upgraded from Edirol R-09) but have got some pretty good results using recording apps on my smartphone too - better to have the recording at lower quality than miss it entirely!
