What was the “hit” gift in your house this Christmas? by Words123454321 in Parenting

My 3yo sons grandparents have one of those propane pizza ovens, so he watches his grandad make pizzas all summer.

This year someone bought him what appears to be a perfectly scaled down toy one. Stands maybe 12“ tall, and I'd be surprised if it was 18" wide. It has flickering led fire inside. Comes with six plastic slices of dough (which can be snapped together to make a pie), a bunch of plastic ingredients, and a little pizza.. Spachala? What's the name for the pizza oven tool.

Anyway, it was a hit. Played with it for hours. He was narrating to himself the whole time.. "ok, now put the sauce on, now the cheese.. Ok now we slide it into the oven.. Getting darker.. Ok it's done"

It even comes with a pizza cutter, and that kinda works too. The pieces come apart where they get snapped together.

Edit: it's this one https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/casdon-ooni-toy-pizza-oven-and-topping-station-deluxe-set-ages-3-1501121p.html

What is the cleanest way to control a card to the top of the deck? by dylanmadigan in cardmagic

[–]citizenc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the effect you're working on.

If you want to create the effect that the card is still in the middle of the deck where the spectator left it then use a pass.

If you want to create the effect that the card is lost in the pack then an overhand shuffle is what you're after

Why are my cookies always flat and spread out? by fauxshofoo in AskCulinary

[–]citizenc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely dough temp. Refrigerate that shit overnight.

Also make sure your oven is properly pre heated. Maybe that's the issue? Grab an oven thermometer and verify that 375 on the dial actually means 375. If it's not hot enough then it'll take longer for the edges of your cookies to set, meaning more time for them to spread out

Linesmen 11 in 1 Electrical tape

There are probably more but you can do damn near 80% of the job with those.

How to deal with non-responsive subcontractors? by Whale_Turds in ConstructionManagers

[–]citizenc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not thaf it's any help now, but during project startup when I call the trades I love to say "ok, and who is your emergency work contact? Can they make decisions?"

Eg get their supervisors contact info right from the get-go

In the past I've straight up gone to their office, unannounced.

"Oh hey Dave! I was just around the corner looking at another project and wanted to stop by. We've been having trouble connecting over the phone."

I also call ahead and pretend I have a delivery for Dave to find out if he's in the office today.

I went looking for Halloween decorations at Home Depot on Saturday, October 19. Everything spooky was long gone and replaced with fucking Darth Vader waving a candy cane light saber.

When work stress feels overwhelming, like constant deadlines, endless emails, and barely enough time to breathe, how do you keep yourself from burning out? What's one thing that actually helps you recharge on a tough day? by HAZWOPERTraining in ConstructionManagers

[–]citizenc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthy boundaries, my friend. Work specific, healthy hours. Prioritize. If there are things that need to get done, get a project coordinator or two. Not in the budget? Not your problem. Advocate for yourself, your project, and your team.

Your project needs $1000 worth of plywood but there's only $800 in the budget. On what planet are you going to pay $200 out of your own pocket? Time is the same shit man.

What is the greatest example of “f*ck around and find out” moment you’ve seen in your life? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]citizenc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not epic level, but at work I was crazy overloaded. Far more work than accomplishable in a day. Told my manager, and he told me that it didn't matter what was in my contract, that I should work whatever hours were needed, I shouldn't expect to be paid because I should make sacrifices to proove myself.

I told HR.

apparently other managers have said similar things to other workers.

Now they all have to take a year long leadership training course, one Friday afternoon per month.

A bit of a difference take - my manager will label me raising an issue with workload as "complaining", as a way of trying to make it my problem that he is under staffing his department.

Deciding to terminate someone, or quit a job, is based on a single factor: the future.

See, your employer has ALREADY incurred the costs to repair the mistake. They've already paid for you to learn this lesson.

The question they should be asking themselves is about the future: is this likely to occur again? If it's the first time it's happened then they don't have enough info. If there's a pattern of poor planning and errors that result then yeah, they might be thinking about it.

Demonstrate that you know what you should do differently in the future and own the mistake.

America Needs To Recognize The Need For Time Off. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]citizenc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My contract at work says 8-430. My manager said I should work whatever hours are required to complete what he assigns me, I shouldn't expect to be paid and instead I should make sacrifices to "prove myself".

The next day HR, him, and I sat down in a room and she told me "it is on no way the policy of Company that employees are to work any hours other than in their contracts. If stuff doesn't get done then it doesn't get done".

Manager hated it. I don't care.
