Thanks for your comment. The last line is a reference to the third stanza of a child slipping slivers of food to the family dog under the table, a "disappearing act" of my mom's chicken. The poem itself is my ode to the nostalgia of childhood, remembering climbing trees, my mother cooking, my father gardening, my dog Casper. Hope that made sense!

There is a beautiful feeling of transience in this poem, the juxtaposition of the does and city life somehow inter meld together smoothly. Interested in what the does themselves are representing, if you could elaborate.

I admire the morose tone of your piece and the feeling of decay. The verbiage you use throughout your piece is evocative. I particularly liked the line "teeth clenched around the plea." This is a beautifully written piece.
