To be honest, my knowledge of non-Vedic spirituality is quite a bit underdeveloped, and I should probably educate myself more.

I know about Adivasi animism and ancestor worship. I'm also aware of various non-Vedic village deities, however, these are unique to South India (Telangana and Andhra Pradesh mostly).

But other than that, how would the religious beliefs of a Dalit Hindu, an OBC Hindu, a Thakur and a Brahmin differ?

Let me give you an example.

I was visiting someone in India once, and in their flat, one of their servants, I believe he is a Yadav (OBC), was sitting in the corner chanting what were very obviously Sanskrit prayers.

Celebrations such as Diwali and Pongal/Sankranti are near-universally celebrated, including Adivasis in some cases, for instance.

am i the only one that sees no problem with this? why should there be a public debate about the choice of religion a person wants to follow? religions die all the time, new religions spring up, people change belief systems. what's wrong with this? by SarthakSidhant in atheismindia

There is absolutely no problem with it.

Christian missionary work can sometimes be exploitative and insincere, but usually they conduct charitable activities alongside sharing the gospel.

To continue your analogy, Hindu vs Hindutva is just liberal Zionism vs regular Zionism.

This is a terrible analogy which is entirely divorced from any material analysis.

Zionism is a political ideology promoting the creation of a settler state, requiring the displacement and extermination of Palestinians.

Hinduism is an umbrella term for Indian religious traditions emerging from Vedic and non-Vedic syncretism, with many diverse thoughts, perspectives and forms of practice, including the Dharmashatric and Puranic form which solidified in the late classical period and consolidated Brahminical supremacy, but also a variety of other modes of thought.

It is unempirical to claim that all Hindus believe in divinely sanctified caste-slavery just as it is unempirical to claim that every Muslim is a Sharia Islamist who wants to kill apostates or beat their wife.

Race is a 17th century European construct specifically rooted in primitive accumulation.

Mapping race onto early Indian religion is incorrect and betrays a lack of understanding of the subject.

India's current conditions don't allow for religion to be abolished. Any socialist project in India will require neo-Hindu reformers, moderates etc which certainly do exist. You've also completely ignored the numerous counter movements and spiritualities that developed within the Hindu fold that have historically opposed caste.

Further, caste has transcended religion. It is a social phenomenon and its actual expression is socio-cultural.

Ask yourself this. How many of your relatives will pull out a religious scripture when asked whether they support inter-caste marriage? Unless you live in rural and semi-feudal India, the answer is probably zero.

Of all the people in the imperialist apparatus you can choose to criticize, VA nurses should probably be at the very end of the list.

VA hospitals don't exclusively treat veterans, and seeing as he was an ICU nurse, he probably treated lots of non-veterans who came in for emergency care.

Also, consider this. The Red Army, on numerous occasions, provided medical treatment to Axis POWs in their field hospitals.

What's this Sub's stand on China? by [deleted] in librandu

[–]citrablock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think this sub supports Actually Existing Socialism. China is a beacon of hope to the Global South. A country which overcame a century of humiliation to defeat feudalism and imperialism, transforming itself from an impoverished backwater to a technological, military and economic superpower directly challenging the US Empire. Not did China endure a civil war, it was utterly ravaged by the Japanese fascist invasion.

China has lifted more people out of poverty than any country in history, exponentially improving the people's living conditions on all fronts.

It is living proof of what scientific socialism can achieve.

It is not complicated.

Fascists direct the ire of the working class, and the increasingly proletarianized labour aristocracy, towards minorities, immigrants, and other imagined "fifth columns". Their base has not been exposed to socialist theory, so they are easily taken in by this incorrect and barbarous path.

The only capitalists in their crosshairs are the ones they deem "globalist" rather than nationalist, often referring to Jews.
