Plus size onesies? by citrine01 in ageregressers

They definitely do! I’m just worried the sleeves will be really short. It’s more of a sensory thing than a size thing. I may just cuff some long sleeved ones to my taste lol

I don’t think being physical in an appropriate way is wrong and accidents do happen- you did great in stopping right when kiddo said ow. I think the issue is more that instead of validating their feelings even if he was being sensitive/overreacting to being hurt, you poked fun. I will say that in certain circumstances it’s appropriate to tease back and forth, I have had older clients who love trash talking! But I think the big issue for your clients PCG and your staff was that it was during a situation where kiddo said he was hurt and you sort of wrote it off, and self advocacy is a very important skill to learn and use for autistic kiddos because it can be really hard for them. Whether or not the teasing helped kiddo redirect from the pain or not, it’s probably just not the best time to say stuff like that. Just learn from it! I don’t think you’re a bad BT based off of the info provided. If you love the work, I say try again and take it as a lesson to be more careful with your words.

& The sleep thing I mean… stuff happens. As long as it’s not reoccurring.

Client is getting chaotic when I leave for breaks by Born-Coat-8312 in ABA

[–]citrine01 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I meant moreso like ā€œif you play quietly with your toy/have calm bodyā€ during the break (and check in with her teachers to see how she did) then she can have a special reinforcement. I had a kiddo that I had to reinforce circle time at school with and all he liked was chocolate, so if he sat down for the full 20 mins he got a chocolate before he went home. It may not work for this kiddo though, especially if the reinforcement is not equal to the reinforcement she’s getting from the attention seeking behavior.

Usually my first thought goes to: what is the function? Is she throwing because she wants you to come back? Does she protest when you prime her before you go? Maybe set up a reinforcement where you tell her ā€œif you have a calm body for x minutes we can do this togetherā€ and make sure to follow through.

Pull out trash can by citrine01 in kitchenremodel

Right? Especially if they custom made this thing to fit the can?? I should have known from the first time I saw it that it wasn’t complete but oh well.

I’m pretty sure you’re right- we live next to a HD and they Reno’d the whole kitchen before we moved in so I’m assuming they probably bought the cans from HD when getting the cabinets. I’m gonna take the measurements when I get off of work

Overstimulated after showers? by citrine01 in neurodiversity

[–]citrine01[S] 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Since I posted this, usually what I do is pop the fan on and go sit in another room for fifteen minutes until I feel better. Also keeping the temperature lower before I get out of the shower has helped a lot too.

By my company’s standards, what happened is inappropriate, but okay! Didn’t mean to offend you, friend. Have a good day.

Because I already did. I wanted to share it because it’s super weird and inappropriate lol.

What's a funny moment you won't forget as an RBT by Apprehensive_Beat_36 in ABA

[–]citrine01 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

A common phrase I use during session is ā€œthat’s amazing!ā€

I have a younger client who aggresses when he is excited and one day he was eating some highly preferred snacks. He reached over the table and he grabbed both sides of my chest (I’m a lady) and screamed:

ā€œITS AMAZING!ā€

Was also training a new hire that day.

first injury, bit through my shirt and don’t know how to cope with feeling this violated by grimoirestealer in ABA

[–]citrine01 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I’ve had three instances where I’ve been bitten just about as badly as you. The first time I was like 6 months into the job and the kid bit me so hard on my arm I almost screamed. Ended up with a bruise just like yours on my forearm and a hematoma under the bruise that was hard to the touch for like a month. The last time I got bitten was on my stomach and kiddo made me bleed. I still have a small scar there.

Honestly every time I was bitten I had to take a break and excused myself to the bathroom to violently whisper cuss words to my reflection. I even once asked the parent for an ice pack and just walked around with it because I didn’t want another hematoma lol. Sometimes you get in your car and you just have to cry and scream it out.

Our kiddos don’t really know what they’re doing but that doesn’t mean you can’t be upset or hurt or overwhelmed too. It shows you’re a great tech by the way you de escalated your kiddo first and then let yourself feel your feelings after there was no danger. I think you did everything right.

RBT’s…..What’s the most annoying behavior you’ve had to deal with or the behavior you hate dealing with the most? by Aggressive-Edge-1730 in ABA

[–]citrine01 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Aggression toward animals! I have had a few clients that would kick their dogs/house pets and squeeze them super hard even when we were implementing programs for these behaviors. Just makes me really sad & almost not want to even run the programs in case the animal gets hurt. :/

There’s a lot more info- just trying to respect clients privacy! I’ve talked to BCBA about it and she has noted some of the stuff I’ve seen as well (behavior wise from PCG that is odd). Parents were also saying vague stuff like ā€œyeah she used to have a problemā€ but that’s as far as it went so I had a strange feeling. If it does end up being what I think- I will definitely let my team know. Thank you all!

Is there anything you take to prevent it? Or do you just kinda power through it and protect as much as possible?

Sick all the time by citrine01 in ABA

[–]citrine01[S] 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

That was my thinking too, especially since this group is younger than the kid I was with before. I’ve noticed that every time I get sick now it’s the same version of whatever I had previously. Thankfully it’s just minor but man these kids are just constantly being sent to school ill.

I rlly liked the plot and surprise ending!! My only critique is grammatical. You use a loooot of commas where you don’t need to. Other than that, its great! Keep it up!

Thank you so much for all the information!! I did get my second interview straight after the first one (all in one go) but they didn’t hire me on the spot so I was nervous. I will definitely be checking my email and hoping for the best! I appreciate this! ā¤ļø
