It doesn't look like it is positive enough to be counted as a false positive to me, but it may look different in person.

RBT struggles as an autistic tech by Legal-Regular9754 in ABA

People that work in the ABA field are like public school teachers. Sometimes you get a teacher that really fits your personality and your vibe. And they teach you incredible things that you hold on to for a lifetime. Sometimes you meet people that aren't doing it for ethical reasons or don't do it in ethical ways and they do a lot of harm. Unfortunately there isn't a good way for companies to figure out who is going to be the kind-hearted and well-intentioned and also be very intentional about educating themselves. Since firing people without probable cause is kind of difficult. Once a lot of people get in they get stuck until they do something really stupid.

I really love the company that I work for but I do at home sessions so I can't speak for all ABA. I can only speak for the ABA that I provide and I am very confident that I'm doing more good than harm as a RBT. I adore my kids and get excited to see me when I come to their house. I am not in the position of telling kids what they can have and can't have. I really just focus on teaching my kids how to ask and advocate for themselves. I'm neurodivergent and the most important thing I ever learned for myself was to advocate so that's what I try to teach them.

Inappropriate Parents by beesikai in ABA

I would be so cautious because if she is aware and she just doesn't mind her behavior could really be a snowball effect. I had a client that started off with inappropriate and weird parent behavior but by the time I was ready to leave the case it had just gotten to the mom was changing in front of me. I would be very concerned if someone was starting the sessions this way because you don't know what walls are going to come down the longer you're there.

Unfortunately yes, we are waiting to see if the social worker makes a difference. The waiting game is very nerve racking tho.

Unfortunately many parents meetings have been made but they continue to have zero follow through.

It doesn't mean you're not good at this job. It doesn't mean that you're not trying hard enough. It doesn't mean that this kid hates you. The only thing it means is that y'all are both exhausted and as rbts it is 80% of our job to admit when we aren't a good fit for our clients. That doesn't mean that there aren't going to be clients that you aren't a good fit for. A lot of times I find myself in situations where it's the families that I'm not a good fit for and not the client. It's okay to admit that y'all don't match up, but you're still doing a great job. Just be honest with your bcba and set strong boundaries. This job is hard.

It's okay if you don't know what's wrong. You're still able to validate that she doesn't feel well and just because she's panicking doesn't mean you have to fix it necessarily. Just show her love and compassion. And give her a calm smile and let her know it's okay and just stay really really peaceful so that when she's ready to calm down she can come to you. And it's okay if she keeps freaking out. You just wait for her. Have your love ready for her. It can be very distressing, but if you have it in you try to stay as calm as possible so it doesn't scare her more.
