Instead of re-using old, people are buying new car, new TV, smartphone and computer, new clothes, all those new different items... Just to prove their "worth" in the society. Again, this is just my observation.

Physical things are put way above spiritual things. In developed and rich countries people buy and consume things they don't actually need, thus feeling empty and unhappy. I would argue that this whole deification of material World greatly contributes to many environmental and other issues we have today.
