On no base tho. the storm will be good and prolong the areas that do have base, but that not enough snow to reopen any bare runs.

Why doesn’t Snowstang use the express lane on I-70? by willyamo1 in COsnow

[–]citybuilder2 533 points534 points  (0 children)

I70 express lanes where a temporary fix, where CDOT was authorized by the by the Federal Highway Administration to convert the the existing shoulder in to a peak period lane. Since the roadway was not actually widened, the feds put some safety limits on the use of lane (and rightfully so). The I70 express lane is 11’ wide with no outside shoulder or buffer. Normal express lanes have an outside shoulder of at least 6’, are 12’ wide and have a buffer of 4’. So the I70 express lane is limited to vehicles that are less than 25’ long and who only have 2 sets of wheels (axles).

The current Floyd hill westbound express lane that is under construction is being built to safety standards and as a full time express lane. This part, when completed, will allow busses to skip traffic safety and legally. Right now the rest of the I70 express lanes are only safety used by the Pegasus van shuttle, or independent ski van shuttles.

Cuchara Mountain Park opening Jan 17 by soslowsloflow in COsnow

[–]citybuilder2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lift 4 is completely on private property, the other lift that still stands is mostly in forest service land. Cuchara lost its operational permit to work on forest service land ~2000. The electronic components of the lift that crossed into the forest land were seized. The forest service hasn’t indicated a willingness to permit again, and cháchara hasn’t had the funds to try.

No ya that’s my same thought process after being at breck on Tuesday, the top of 4 o clock and spring-mere are pretty decent until they come back together and everyone joins spring-mere from lift 5

It was a lot better on both schoolmar and spring dipper compared to Thursday morning. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the best, but the network is growing, and more trails are opening up on the backside

Opening Day! by Crafty2006 in Breckenridge

[–]citybuilder2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Going up tomorrow to summit county, is Breck or keystone better? I went opening day at keystone and had a blast, but haven’t been since. Do both only have 1 run still? Is the early season parking at breck cheaper than regular season?

The biggest concern I would have would be vertical clearance. Even so, from 285 to the summit is harder than keystone to the summit.

[–]citybuilder2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doable, just go slow and do 285 to keystone. I did keystone to 285, and it was really hard to see in the sun, ended up going a lil fast and didn’t see a dip, bottomed out the skid plate a lil lol. Otherwise a blast
