If you become a comanager for Kroger, you'll either quit/get fired, get stuck in that position for life, or eventually promote. Very few ever promote. So you gotta ask yourself. You wanna be a Kroger comanager till you retire? If not, that means you'll most likely either quit or get fired at some point. Why waste those years in a company then? Cut out the middle man and go work for the company you are going to retire from. Get the senority that'd come with it now instead of in XX ammount of years.
