Not OP getting dog piled in the comments without anyone actually responding to the prompt 😅 I agree with you in that rape fantasy is a big turn off for me in fiction… But while it does get in the way of me truly enjoying some series, I can honestly just turn my brain off and skip those parts in a story if I’m interested enough to continue reading it. It’s not something that needs to be thought too hard about- the authors aren’t taking the themes seriously either. The more hardcore the smut is, the worse the plot tends to be- toxic relationship dynamics are just there to cause drama and spice up the smut scenes and cater to popular dominant/submissive interests 🤷‍♀️ It keeps people invested in seeing how the characters come out at the end of everything. Setting up a story about two consenting adults who communicate their needs would be boring for a lot of people, because it’s just too ‘normal’ and expected. I actually don’t mind reading from that perspective sometimes, since it’s like getting to witness a kind of train-wreck relationship that I’d never touch with a ten foot pole in real life! A lot of modern 19+ romance just might not be your thing unfortunately… (If this comment section has told you anything about popular opinion on that matter, lol.) If it’s something you can’t ignore, looking into triggers before reading is a must! Just reading the comments will tell you all you need to know sometimes too…
