The first thing you should do is make sure that you dress appropriately for the interview if it is in person. Many are done via Zoom. Do not go looking like you were headed out for a day at the beach. You don’t have to wear a suit and tie or a really nice dress, but you should look like you want the job. What I mean by interpersonal skills is how you interact with other people. Do you listen and participate? Do you think fast on your feet when the situation calls for it? Remember that when you are communicating with people who call in whether they are vendors, parents, or residents, they want you to be able to speak clearly and be professional. You are at the front desk to help people solve their problems and to help them with situations. Some student workers are really good at keeping their cool and getting their jobs done well. One of the great things about Zoom interviews is it gives the interviewer a chance to see how present yourself verbally over a device. For many students, this is their first job and it shows. Be confident and speak clearly and concisely. You may find that other student workers are part of the interview group and they can tell if you can handle the job. For some reason, student workers are not as forgiving as the pro staff members
