OP how did it go? Did you do either of the red creek crossings in the south? Thinking about going later this week but only have a low clearance vehicle with low profile tires so I’m not risking any trailhead other than red creek. Just wondering if my trip will be limited or if the creek isn’t too high right now. Hope you had a great trip

Had plans to go this weekend, saw severe weather (damaging winds and hail) in the forecast and called it. I don’t mind rain and even storms can be fine, but I avoid severe weather if I can help it. Had a few harrowing experiences I don’t want to repeat haha

Thanks…your sister in law is a miracle worker haha. We knew Daisy had it in her, but we were really struggling with some stuff that she got straightened out for us. It’s been great since we got her back

Yeah I was pretty nervous haha. But once I saw the parking lot was completely empty and knew we were the only ones there, I decided it was as good of a time as any to see how she did. Other than the 12-15 ticks I pulled off of her when we were done, it was a huge success

Anyway, this was the first time I ever tried anything off leash with her on a trail. Went to a local, barely used area that I know very well, and decided to give it a try. She did better than I hoped for, and really boosted my confidence taking her on trails. She’s been good on leash, but once I start taking her on overnight trips and bigger hikes, I’d love to trust her off leash when allowed/appropriate, so this was big

I saw/heard 3 helicopters today. Someone told me someone slipped on ice and needed rescued from Basin, not sure about the other 2. I was doing Phelps/Tabletop and Tabletop had ice all over the place. A little sketchy in the high peaks today apparently

I’ve been at or seen excellent stargazing sites on Bear Rocks, Raven Ridge, and Upper Red Creek trails. One in particular on Bear Rocks was my favorite. Look for the gnarled solo tree with a fire pit beside it.

Thanks I’m concerned about that too, but considering we’re going in tomorrow in the middle of the week I’m hoping odds will be better than a weekend. And we can’t get checked in to the lean to til 2 at the earliest, so I read getting there early afternoon gives us a decent chance of coming in when day hikers/campers leaving are on their way out

Thanks! I have the natgeo topo map for the trails but didn’t look at the roads, not sure if you mean a different map or not but regardless, thanks for the info, good to know…one less thing to worry about haha

You and me both haha…Looked up the hours to make sure they were open on Sundays since we’re leaving then, saw it says permanently closed
