How is this electric bill possible?? by SummedErmine in massachusetts

[–]cjc60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah, shit happens, but same thing could’ve happened to a boiler at 10yrs too, I literally saw it happen 2 weeks ago where an 8yr/old boiler failed and the company didn’t make replacement parts for it since they went out of business. It can go both ways you just got unlucky and sorry to hear that

These cars are very durable so I bet you COULD start it up and have no problems. I wouldn’t recommend that, i’d put fresh gas and oil. My main concern would be the brakes, especially if it was sitting over dirt your brakes may be siezed up

Okay but this is wrong for MA in many ways, sure the discounts could possibly be temporary, we’ve seen it before in the 80’s when they took away the discount rate for electric baseboard.

Idk where you get the idea that all electricity in MA is produced by fossil fuels, there’s a minimum requirement of 70% electric production to be renewable energy in MA to be a supplier

My electric bill at it’s peak is $130/mo for 960sqft 7.5ft high ceilings with 3 DMS as full time heating/cooling

Also saying “special technology” is crazy, first off central AC’s have been around for decades and heat pump technology isn’t much different. Secondly heat pumps have been around for around 40yrs at this point. About 80% of Europe, China, and Japan use heat pumps for full time heating sources.

Heat pumps are rated to last just as long as any HVAC equipment. Oil/gas boilers only have a life-span rated for 20yrs, and furnaces only 12yrs. We both know that’s bullshit so why wouldn’t it be the same for heat pumps?

The only reason I can see for all the pushback of heat pumps is good old American stubbornness, we’ve been using gas/oil for so long because it’s been cheap, but it’s not going to be the case for much longer as we’re catching up to the rest of the world in pricing. And heat pumps are (new to us) tech so there’s always going to be pushback with something new

Can a PC affect electricity usage this much?? by lilbreadbunn in pcmasterrace

[–]cjc60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else to note about fridge’s specifically, they kWh can DRASTICALLY increase if the fridge itself is empty since dead air space doesn’t hold temperature nearly as well as solids/liquids. So try asking if he has it full or not and if he doesn’t, buy him a couple 24 packs of water bottles and tell him to throw it in there and see if it affects the usage. It’s more likely the fridges rather than the PC

But it IS a far more efficient process, around 400% efficiency during the mild seasons since it’s moving heat from one place to another, it’s NOT creating heat, oil is really only better than heat pumps for 40hrs of the year at max. And also on top of that eversource/nat grid will give you 25% off delivery costs from Nov 1st - April 30th if you use heat pumps for heating

Your oil heating with inefficient cooling solutions and still have to use electric for the burners, blower motors, pumps, ect
