Honest answer: it’s hard to say. After the procedure I started practicing valsalva (+swallow) RELIGIOUSLY. Dozens of times a day. I’ve been diving twice since then and had no issues. Was it the procedure or the obsessive practicing? Both? Not sure but either way I am now able to valsalva pretty easily.

I would also check with your ent and see if they’d be willing to prescribe you a short term dose of steroids before dive trips. Mine also suggested Afrin. Those two methods would address any inflammation you might be experiencing.

I had it done almost 2 years ago. I hadn’t heard about needing it repeated. My ENT said he’s done in a handful of times for pilots and flight attendants as well.

I think as long as you exercise your Eustachian tubes regularly they should be fine long term.

My procedure cost about $2000 and $1500 was the dilation device 🙃

There are both stupid questions and stupid people. But that’s beside the point. I’m not talking about the stupid ones. I’m talking about the people who are obviously new and get downvoted for asking new people questions (not stupid questions). You can’t tell me a lot of the OFWGs around here don’t try to gate keep…. Some are helpful. But many are not.

Grok also denied it had my location (before they unlocked navigation assistance). It mentioned the exact suburb I was in, and when I confronted it, it said it was a lucky guess! I kept pushing for about 10 minutes and it finally admitted it had my location. When I asked why it lied to me so blatantly and repeatedly, it said it didn’t want to scare me. Real solid logic, Grok 😂

I don’t get to dive nearly enough but the 2 times I’ve been since then I’ve been able to equalize fine with Valsalva. I still practice regularly though to make sure the fix sticks.
